I honestly knew nothing about him. Only read that apparently people were saying that Bivol struggled in his previous bout before Canelo. I never saw Bivol before though.Comment

People were calling it a cherry pick because of the options Canelo had at the time. Showtime vs DAZN. Charlo and Benevitez with Showtime vs Bivol and GGG with DAZN. Most people here went with the narrative that he was avoiding Benevitez in particular with that deal.
You must be the only one cos almost all the usuals on here said it was a cherry pick and a way to avoid Charlo and Benavidez. Those same set now see Bivol as the next best thing since Mayweather who will always beat Canelo. At least we now know that it wasn't a cherry pick cos Bivol surely waxes Charlo and at worst a toss up with Benavidez so Canelo trying to fight him again should be commendable.
Shopworn GGG was a helluva easier match up for him too.Last edited by b Murphington; 04-05-2023, 12:53 PM.Comment

Ryder is one of the best in the division, rate him or not but the division isn't exactly stacked.
It's a decent fight, I had Ryder comfortably bearing Smith who then got the Canelo fight and fought scared he isn't a bum like some idiots will say.Comment

His last non title fight was in 2017. All of the mandatories he "avoided" were because he was fighting a unification or moving up in weight to fight a title fight instead. Fighting a world champion seems a better challenge in general than a random mandatory picked by the sanctioning bodies. He hasn't actually established a pattern. He had to fight Yildirim to get a shot at undisputed, and it's a bit of a hater move to blame him for fighting Ryder before Bivol. The organizations have their rotation after all. In fact he's only had 4 non title fights in the last 12 years, which were Angulo, Lara, Kirkland, and Chavez Jr. And he defended his light middleweight title 5 times, up until he ran into Mayweather. So not sure about the whole "he avoids his mandatories" narrative. Not many active boxers who have a better resume.Comment
