Closed my ass...American could have cared less about Joe Louis...He came in handy as far is dismissing **** propaganda (fight w/ Schmeling)...After which, Uncle Sam bent him over, and shoved it in (taxes)....till he died.
Poor Joe....he was on top of the world. Oddly for a black man, he a legend in his time...but that was for a reason.......he was of use at the time.Comment

The american public adored Louis, black and white alike, because he carried himself with dignity and fought all the best fighters available. Acting like a **** may get you attention, but it doesn't make you a star or beloved. Louis always acted with class before during and after fights. The man is everything Floyd could never be. And that is to bad because Floyd had the potential to be a cross over star, but he choose to act like a thug.Comment

True, True. Also, he had to act a certain way back then. You had Jack Johnson before him who pretty much played a bad guy role and made it that much harder for a black man to compete for a heavyweight title in boxing. If Joe Louis would've acted the same way he would've been lynched, no doubt about it. So he had to played his part. The racial climate was much different back then, so trying to compare the two is moot.Comment

Very easy folks.
Floyd is NOT the actual "bad guy" braggart" that some of you are accustomed to seeing. He has used that persona only for the past few years as a marketing (genius) ploy to become a house hold name. He learned from the best like Ali, Tyson, and Hopkins and knew that for a black man to become a star in the U.S. he has to be a tough guy. A white boxer can become a star simply because the majority of U.S. is white. A latino can become a star like Oscar De la Hoya by being a nice guy simply because there's like 30 billion latino people all over the world. But history shows that the most talented black people rarely become stars. Look at Pernel Whitaker I doubt he'd be a draw in today's boxing world. Only a guy like Tyson a perennial criminal could get huge ratings and huge $$$ in the U.S. and thus Floyd Mayweather took on this bad persona.
Now his goals are achieved. He has "arrived" as the most dominant PPV heavy hitter in the world today in boxing. He now rivals only Oscar de la Hoya and has surpassed everyone else including Pacquiao and as such he must be feeling that he no longer needs to put on that fake front.
The true Floyd is sensitive and caring as you saw by tonight's interview with how bad he felt about the ill comments he made about the HBO crew.
He knows that now that he's such a huge star he will continue to dominate PPV charts without having to rely on the bad boy persona, he's now famous enough to be a huge star without that so he has simply doffed the fake facade.
Welcome back, Floyd.Comment
