I'm not saying he would've acted like Johnson but I sure as hell know they were "things" he wanted to do or say that he "couldn't" do due to the racial climate. Now, is my point still moot?

He has used that persona only for the past few years as a marketing (genius) ploy to become a house hold name. He learned from the best like Ali, Tyson, and Hopkins and knew that for a black man to become a star in the U.S. he has to be a tough guy. A white boxer can become a star simply because the majority of U.S. is white. A latino can become a star like Oscar De la Hoya by being a nice guy simply because there's like 30 billion latino people all over the world. But history shows that the most talented black people rarely become stars. Look at Pernel Whitaker I doubt he'd be a draw in today's boxing world. Only a guy like Tyson a perennial criminal could get huge ratings and huge $$$ in the U.S. and thus Floyd Mayweather took on this bad persona.
Now his goals are achieved. He has "arrived" as the most dominant PPV heavy hitter in the world today in boxing. He now rivals only Oscar de la Hoya and has surpassed everyone else including Pacquiao and as such he must be feeling that he no longer needs to put on that fake front.
The true Floyd is sensitive and caring as you saw by tonight's interview with how bad he felt about the ill comments he made about the HBO crew.
He knows that now that he's such a huge star he will continue to dominate PPV charts without having to rely on the bad boy persona, he's now famous enough to be a huge star without that so he has simply doffed the fake facade.
          Welcome back, Floyd.
explanation: floyd's momma slapped some sense back into him.

Floyd retired for almost two years. Real great fighters dont say they are the best without beating the beat in the sport. Ali said it, but he fought foreman, Frazier. He wasn't hiding behind them. Leonard fought Hearns and duran twice, plus hangler. That happen because he wasn't waiting to retire to start looking for real fights. Tyson was a big name because he destroyed everyone in his path. Most of Tyson problems in the ring came after he was already a big star. The spotlight did that to him. But the spotlight made floyd retire because the star(Floyd) had only these options- Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, Berto, P.williams, C. Quintana, etc.
what great fighters have mayweather NOT fought in this era?

dont say Pac or Cotto cause he will fight the winner...dont say Mosley cause he will fight him after that.

              Who has Mayweather ducked?

              Margarito?

I've read up on Joe Louis and he seemed to be faker than Mayweather! he was a class act in the public eye but a horrible husband and father. His son even says in the documenty that Louis would take off for weeks at a time without notice. He was also known to beat up a mistress or two fromtime to time. Jack Johnson didnt make it harder for other black fighters, white America did. They hated the way Johnson spoke his mind and did whatever he pleased (which involved ****ing a lot of white chicks).

The powers that be made sure no other black fighter would have that type of power again so Joe Louis was coached on how to act so not to offend white America. Joe Louis still ended up broke and alone for all of his trouble, at least Johnson went out the way he wanted to. Mayweather's story is still being written so we all gotta sit back and see how it plays out.

If Floyd did`nt fight the best fighters how did he make the number 1 p4p list then. You don`t make that list fighting bums.

1.He beat the best fighters at 130 which was Corralles and Genero Hernandez,

2.he beat the best fighter at 135 Jose Luis Castillo

3.He beat the best fighter at 140 at the time which was Hatton at 147 (Hatton avoided him at 140)he beat the number one fighter at 147 baldomir who was the undisputed champ who was basically a shorter vesion of Margarito.

4.HE BEAT A TOP 3 FIGHTER AT 154 WHICH WAS DELAHOYA AND DELAHOYA OUTWEIGHED HIM 15-20 POUNDS.

He has`nt fought all the best fighters that`s because:A. some of them avoided him(Acelino Freitas,Joel Cassamayor,Mosley)B.Were`nt available at the time(kOSTA TSZU)C.He can`t fight all of them at once.

Your point is absolutely moot unless you show proof of some of these "things" he wanted to do or say. Do you mean like making it possible for Jackie Robinson to break the color barrier in baseball, or refusing to fight for segregated troops?

And that is to bad because Floyd had the potential to be a cross over star, but he choose to act like a thug.

Then why is`nt Mosley,Paul WILLIAMS and TIM Bradley Stars.
