We certainly agree that the Fury - Usyk fight should be made.
We also agree that its nice to collect up all the belts to bolster one's claim of being champion. This is especially true when a champion has retired or died while holding the title, and other fighters are left to determine who the next champion is going to be. But today, at Heavyweight, that just isn't the case, its it?

Where we differ is the difference between being Heavyweight Champion and being a Heavyweight title beltholder.
This isn't me saying this, it's the history of the title. It's carved in stone. Its history. In the modern era that means Sullivan, Corbett, Fitzsimmons, Jeffries, Hart, Burns, Johnson, Willard, Dempsey, Tunney, Schmeling, Sharkey, Carnera, Baer, Braddock, Louis, Charles, Walcott, Marciano, Patterson, Johansson, Patterson, Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Leon Spinks, Ali, Holmes, Michael Spinks, Tyson, Douglas, Holyfield, Bowe, Holyfield, Moorer, Foreman, Briggs, Lewis, Rahman, Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Tyson Fury, and Fury has never lost the one title.
Belt counting does not have any meaning.
    None.

    Let's examine that last statement.

Usyk, like Joshua and Ruiz and Joshua, have held a collection of "Title" belts that were stripped for the purpose of profit from a guy who never lost them in the ring (Fury), who had won them by decisively beating the prior champion (Klitschko). These include the IBF belt, which traces back its recent lineage only to Charles Martin, who won it in an elimination fight when sub top 10 Vyacheslav Glazkov injured his right knee, quit and never fought again. This gave Fringe contender Martin the belt, which Joshua scooped up easily for his 1st "world title". Martin himself went on to be knocked out by 2 time Wilder KO victim Luis Ortiz. Not very historically prestigious, you'll agree.

Joshua's next 3 belts came to him when he beat a retired, middle aged Wladimir Klitschko who was embarking on a comeback for one last taste. This was contested for the WBA, IBF & IBO belts. Problem was, Klitschko didn't hold those belts, because in his last fight, two calendar years prior, he lost all of his belts to ...you guessed it; Tyson Fury; in a near shut out performance.

That's three of those four belts, each one out of thin air.

Finally, the vast collection of meaningless belts which are in essence sold to promoters for profit, was picked up by Joshua when he won a tepid 12 round decision over the once promising Joseph Parker, who had won that WBO strap in a close nod over Andy Ruiz Jr in 2016. In his next fight Parker was beaten decisivly by Dillian Whyte, who champion Fury smashed to bits last year in defense of the real title.

So there you have it. The not-so rich recent history of all those belts that keep getting passed around by contenders who are good contenders, but are not real heavyweight world champions. Just title beltholders.
With so many belts up for sale, many contenders get to hold one for awhile these days. One of boxing's worst embarrassments.

Fortunately, at Heavyweight, we have title lineage to guide us. Lineage as shown in the Encyclopedia Britannica.
We don't have to suffer those unscrupulous for-profit "Banditos", as the Ring Magazine used to call them, strip belts, bestow belts and publish their absurd ratings to confuse casual fans such as perhaps yourself in order to fill their pockets.

    Nothing complicated about that.

Sure Usyk is a superb athlete. But the heavyweight champion of the World?????
You can't get that from beating the man who beat Charles Martin my friend.
don’t try to reason with people who don’t know ****te about boxing lol. It’s 2023 all these ******** want belts for everyone so they can call the guy they back a champion. Don’t matter if it’s a paper title as long as they get a belt they’re worth 50% of everything lol. Usyk has beaten a washed up AJ 2x and an extremely debateable recent decision “win”against chisora who fury just toyed with. Usyk also has a debatable decision against maris bredis who just got schooled by jai opetia with one arm. I’m truly flummoxed by people who tout this mans “greatness” and put him on such a high pedestal. Like go watch the chisora fight he lost that lol. Anyone who thinks fury is ducking this guy is on cloud 9 it’s easy work. Usyk is a good boxer but a great big man beats a great small man it’s an old boxing adage that always has rang true

Whilst John has a good point, and Tyson is the biggest star, it doesn't exactly sound like they're trying everything to make the fight.

50/50 wouldn't hurt them, and then take a bigger slice of the pay-per-views.

Just pay the war hero 45%. Many people in world get what they don't deserve. Ugly men get beautiful women as girlfrieds, 80 year old billionaires with 30 year old blonds, punching above weight.

Usyk: Fury is not worthy of 51%. Fall in line. Agree to 50/50 and you might get the fight.

100% correct all the way through. I guess that nobody ever said that the average combat sports fan was very smart. With no print media anymore to pin down facts and news integrity dead, people are more mislead than ever. More belts = real champion...LOL!!!!!

John Fury knows not. He is trying to protect his son from a whipping the whole world will see. Fury fears Usyk, no question. Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman, and Tony Bellew knows this. Fury refused the Saudi offer while Usyk agreed. Fury refused a rematch with Klitschko who was 40 years old. Fury refused to fight AJ. Who does Fury want to fight? A non-boxer MMA fighter with a 0-0 boxing record, and a fourth fight with Wilder, who he already knocked out twice. Fury’s last two defenses of his title was against Dillian Whyte, who had been knocked cold by 41 year old Povetkin and knocked out by AJ, and Chisora, who Fury already beat twice, and who lost as many fights as he won in the past few years. On the other hand, Usyk has beaten Chisora, AJ twice, Joe Joyce, and Tony Bellew. Watch the 12th round of Fury’s fight with Otto Wallin, a greater than 10:1 underdog. Fury’s face was a bloody mess and he was staggering around the ring, holding on for dear life. If Fury is so damn sure of a victory, both fighters take 40% and the winner gets the remaining 20%. But this is all moot. While Fury calls Usyk the rabbit, Fury is the chicken. Fury will refuse to fight Usyk no matter the money. John Fury doesn’t want his big baby beaten up.

Biggest payday of his career was likely the second Joshua fight.

                    This is not true.

As a long time Fury fan I know exactly how he lost possession of the 3 belts he won from Wlad and none of them were "stripped for the purposes of profit."

Tyson was stripped of the IBF belt for signing a rematch clause with Wlad without notifying the IBF and getting clearance from them to go straight into another fight with Wlad, in the event he won the IBF title. The IBF mandatory was due and Tyson was unable to go ahead with it because of the unauthorised rematch clause, so the IBF stripped him.

Tyson was not stripped of his WBA and WBO belts. He relinquished them and announced his retirement from the sport because of mental illness issues.

It was. It was also a bigger payday than any of Tyson Fury's.
