No but I literally followed him since his debut as did a lot of Brits I imagine and I highly doubt anyone who seen his early fights thought he was a anything but a big, dopey, gormless laughing stock.

I still remember his debut on the TV with my mum and remember saying I'll make some good money when this bum steps up and saying how awful he was.
Safe to say that aged incredibly well!

        I wonder how that happened?

I was of the same thinking, I watched him on channel 5. I thought he was terrible. I didn't see any real signs of talent, skill, seems very sloppy, clumsy. Never in a million years did I see him winning a European title.

So what do you think happened? Has to be one of the most improved fighters ever.

I remember when he said he was better than Muhammad Ali and I was saying he isn't even on Nino Valdez level.

I remember the first time I watched Fury and it seemed like he'd improved a lot was Martin Rogan. Not a great opponent but all of a sudden his movement and speed was drastically better.

I have always been adamant that, the fight was stopped too early 'But I understand why it was stopped from a compassionate perspective'.

Fury was winning, Wilder was taking a beating. But he was still fighting back.

And you just don't pull out a big puncher like Wilder, when he is still trying etc.

          I stand corrected.
          I apologize.
I shoulda said " when he got a TKO against Wilder the second fight ".

          Easy there.
I agree with most of the things you said.
I was at the first Fury / Wilder fight and agreed with the Draw.
" To this day " I still like Wilder and have said I'd prefer watching Wilder / AJ than Fury / Usyk.
But Fury has earned my respect.

Absolutely not. I say all of this as a fan of Tyson but he doesn’t look the part, he wasn’t always fun to watch back in the day (style wise) and he sings goofy songs after wins. Plus, the division had undefeated Joshua and Wilder. One is basically what you get if scientists went into a lab to create the most marketable fighter imaginable and the other just knocks guys absolutely cold. They each seemed much more likely to be a a star than Fury.

Huge, athletic, quick and ring generalship.
Tuff to see the future for this guy LOL. These thread starters need a hobby.

I know 1 person in boxing who for sure did. Emmanuel Steward. There is a video of him around 2011 stating that Tyson Fury will be the next dominant heavyweight after Wlad. He also mentions Wilder and that those 2 will be future top dogs of the division.

Wasn't wrong just didn't live to see it. Crazy how it's his nephew that is now Furys trainer

And clearly it was the right decision. Because if it wasn't stopped then see fight 3 to see what would happen. Outside of the knockdowns Wilder got he took an even worse beating.

And Wilder first knockdown of Fury in fight 1
And knockdown 2 of fight 3
were both clearly full on back of the head

Aside from that didn't know much about him.

                      Chose Klit to KO him.
                      Chose Wilder to KO him.
After he KO'd Wilder in their second fight I jumped on the Fury bandwagon.
                      Haha welcome aboard.
