Sometimes a certain style, especially against a speed fighter can cause you more problems. Hagler had the bigger name and was more known, but Norris had the style and speed and Ray could not get away with the same approach he had against Hagler. If he tried one of those under hand flurries he would get nailed with quick upercut. Notice how end of round 2 Ray attempts that underhand flurry and got caught.

Im willing to bet anyone that Ray would choose to fight 1987 Hagler 20 times over fight Michael Nunn of 1988 one time. Hagler had the bigger name, but that doesn't automatically mean the young cat who's not as popular, not a current champion would not present more problems.

How about 1981 version of Ray. Nunn gets slaughterd, Norris abused and stopped. Hagler would have been the fight, but ray had a detached retina. So he only retires and stay away for 5 yrs while hagler stops everyone he faced, and then ray moves up 2 weight classes, and shell of himself and beats hagler. Norris could not even beat simon brown...Your are hilarious. I guess being out of boxing for damm near 9 years with 3-4 fights means nothing to you, huh

February 9 1991 Ray was 34 years old, not 36.

Question? In Ray's prime when did he face a speed fighter like Norris?

And your point. he was 34, still shot. Are you doubting he was out of boxing 7 of the previous 9 years. retired in 82. this fight was in 91. Only had 4 fights in those 9 years leading up to norris and was off a 1.5 years at that between his previous fight and the Norris fight.

I think my point is clear, and made. YOu are trying to compare a shot version of Leonard, to whatever and thinking your making sense. If that is that case, the the Ali that fougght Holmes gets beat by michael spinks, because his style was that he simply laid on the ropes the entire time. Not taking into account that he was shot, old vs Holmes. According to you this is valid comparisons.

Mayweather is a 130-147 pounder, Leonard was a 147-168 pounder. Just sayin.
Yeah, Sugar Ray would have beaten Mayweather up badly.

Once again a person who knows nothing about boxing. This lightweight was 72-1 only 28 years old, had moved up to welter weight for 8 solid fights by the time he faced a relativley green SRL, who actually abandoned his style and elected to slug it out, NO he was not forced as Duran never once cut off the ring. Leonard willingly slugged it out with a fighter who even after he faced Ray twice and 1-1 (notice how you left out that fact) this lightweight went on to win titles at 154 and 160,vs younger champions, davey moore and iran barkley.

Who has Mayweather beaten that deserves to hold SRL's jock. while your researching, learn your facts.

Again, Mayweather would never lose to a LW. He isn't ****** as Leonard and is clearly the better boxer. Leonard started at WW, yet couldn't handle a LW. Weak

Your point is a good point and just like Floyd is untested while Ray's resume looks tested i do think Ray's resume is tested against fighters he matches up well against with the exception of Hearns.

Ray in his prime never fought a quick fighter at 147 that was also quick, smart with the ability to defend, step back and counter, make you miss and counter who was also a smart fighter and a thinking fighter.
