You don’t get what you don’t ask for. His advisors are negligent.

When the same thing happened with Broner against Escobedo years ago, Escobedo got six figures to not pull out. But that’s because he was like “Nah I’m definitely not fighting”.

And it was the right thing for him to do to take the money, because he lost and then got exposed in his next fights as completely unworthy.

Concecao is a gold medalist. His people should have had him pull out. Top Rank won’t care about any favors he did them if he loses badly and retires broke.

poor conceicao had to take this or top rank would treat him like nicholas walters. robson is almost 34, very old for this weight class, and if they put him on a shelf, his career would effectively be over with no money earned and no accomplishments.

You have a fairly myopic view of things. Conceicao is not a star in this sport. It's not his fault that Stevenson failed to make weight, but refusing to fight and causing the card to fail would be devastating to his career prospects. This is undoubtedly what his handlers have expressed to him, though they could have negotiated a better penalty payment for him. They have a bit more business sense than to just take today's money ($250K) and run. Beyond that, fighting Shakur on this stage raises his profile and earning potential. Beating Shakur makes him a star.

TF are you talking about? Robson is now getting close to 7 figures for this fight. I know this for a fact. Not sure why anyone on here is saying otherwise it doesn’t say that anywhere in the article and you don’t know anyone close to concacio

Yes, I can see that perspective.

But, business wise, you can guarantee that he was under a lot of pressure to move forward with the fight.

I don't think his team negotiated very well if they only got him an extra $50k though.

Hopefully they got a rehydration clause with another weigh in fight day - but I doubt it.

Good post. I agree that he shoud have negotiated a better deal but maybe it was a take it or leave it situation.

Sounds like the penalty by itself was 300k. He's getting 550k in total, so his team more than doubled his purse. He's still getting his original purse in addition to the penalty from Stevenson. Either the math or the reading comprehension is suspect here.
