Unifications do not, in practice, trump mandatories. Even just over the past few years we've seen mandatory obligations scupper possible unification bouts, especially if they're cross promotional. The boxing organizations don't particularly like giving up their sanctioning fees, especially WBC/WBA who love having as many "champions" pay them as possible. Loma has always been clear that his goal is undisputed. Teo had a belt at the time. Haney did not. And Loma also has specifically denied that he filed for franchise. We only have that line from Sulaiman, who isn't trustworthy by any stretch. Far more likely that he was offered it by Sulaiman and told "this means that you won't have to worry about a mandatory obligation interfering with unification" while WBC got the opportunity to have two "champions" paying them sanctioning fees.Comment

Is it really difficult to understand that unifications trump mandatories. It’s like the oldest rule in boxing. Anyone with a brain between their ears know this.
You do know loma fought a bigger guy, world champion, huge puncher, much more established than Devin Haney ever was at that point.
So loma “ducked” a defence minded pillow fisted lightweight to fight teofimo Lopez. A natural 140Iber.
If you still don’t grasp this, then stop watching boxing kid. Go back to figure skating or whatever it is you gen z kids do.
Lomachenko wasn't at the wbc and the belt was vacant. The top two contenders were Campbell and Haney.
Bob pulled strings to get Loma to fight Campbell for the wbc.
That was supposed to be Haney's shot, not Loma's.
And then after they cheated Haney of his shot, they refused to defend against him and requested the franchise aka duck your mandatories belt.
Why wouldn't Haney fans or even neutral fans be pissed about that.
Especially when Haney was given the derogatory email champ belt after being cheated and ducked right afterwards?Comment

The whole situation made no sense, he'd literally just became champion palming him off with a mandatory right away makes little to no sense tbh... seems like a whole lot of behind the scenes tomfoolery to promote all sorts of confusion within the division.Comment

Loma wouldn't get the same praise if he looked like Haney.Comment

Ummm you do know Loma took LESS to make the Teo fight happen so that makes no sense. Bottom line is that Loma Teo was easier to make than Loma Haney and it was for all the marbles. If you wanna blame anyone, blame the greedy WBC who made up the ****** franchise designation in the first place. They went on to collect two sanctioning fees for the same belt & then told Teo he was the real WBC champ after giving one to Haney.Comment

You hurl insults because you know what Loma did was horse crap. Teo just fought at 140. Being hyped up on ESPN doesn't mean you're more established. Loma is on a P4P list that should tell you all you need to know about the Worldwide leader in sports.
