Comments Thread For: Hearn: Canelo Has To Be Respected For Picking Bivol Instead of Charlo

Promoter Eddie Hearn, who currently works with undisputed super middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, has a very good idea who he'd like to see the Mexican superstar face in the coming future.

A few years ago, Canelo got the franchise title so he wouldn't have to face Charlo. Whatever excuse is being used this week, the original reason had nothing to do with Bivol.

Nah he cherrypicked Bivol. Canelo fought the number three guy at 175 and got far than he bargained for.

“When people talk about how Canelo should fight Benavidez and Charlo, which would be voluntary defenses of his 168-pound titles, it doesn’t stoke anything in Canelo.”
Really? What about a highly motivated canelo having a voluntary defense of his mw title against little Amir khan instead of facing his mandatory challenger and fellow title holder ggg? What about canelo defending his wbc title against Yidilgrim? This wasn’t about what motivates canelo. This was canelo thinking he could get another title against an average champion like he did all throughout 168. They know bivol had been inactive and did not look good in his last 2 fights. They misjudged the scenario and he got his ass kicked. Spare me the he dares to be great BS.

Canelo Alvarez is a super Champion, he took on a big challenge.

Yes he deserves respect, but? Nothing out of the ordinary 'He lost a fight, without really leaving it all in the ring'.

                Bivol deserves big respect himself.

Karma is great. I believe for all the shenanigans, drug taking, judges scoring etc we are finally seeing Canelo begin his descent. It won't be long before someone scores a knockdown or knockout against him (it could be GGG) we've seen him hurt from head shots a few times now in his career. The blueprint is also now out there of how to beat him; you either pressure him by pushing him back or if he pushes forward the opponent just needs to circle and box around him.

Canelo has not challenged himself against an elite fighter in their prime (apart from Bivol which he lost 117-111) so he's not familiar with the intensity of these fights. Canelo is 32 and has been in a lot of fights in his career so when it comes to fighting the likes of Benavidez who will throw fast combos to the head and body he's gonna be in a world of chit.

people making out like he never stood a chance, he was a massive favourite and not one person asked by ring magazine picked bivol to win, some had canelo stopping him early lol. he wasnt fighting king kong, bivol was the type of fighter he SHOULD have been fighting his whole career. a world level opponent one of the top names in the division. why give him a pat on the back for that lol
