"Canelo lost so it's bad matchmaking"
Do you people hear yourself sometimes? Stop making excuses for this guy. If was really THAT GUY he would have beaten Floyd and Bivol. But he's not that guy so here you are making excuses for him.Comment

I am sorry but I'm not falling for the hook, line and sinker bullshit that Canelo was trying to do something amazing or was daring to be great. He just underestimated Dmitry Bivol that's all. He's not got much left to prove... he's already an ATG.
Losing, by trying to do something amazing, isn't 'on' anyone. It's what sportsmen are supposed to do - challenge yourself to be as great as you possibly can.
When Canelo retires, he won't wonder how far he could have gone. He's actually going to find out.
if he had any idea or clue that he would lose then he would have never taken this fight in the first place. Canelo took the fight with Bivol in order to avoid David Benavidez.
Also, because he thought that Dmitry would be just another easy fight like all of the rest of the Euro bums he has defeated since 2018.

Benavidez is a danger fight because he is capable of stopping Canelo, he won't sit back while Canelo is tired on the ropes, he will unload the clip. Bivol was a tough fight for different reasons but they thought Canelo would be competitive enough for the judges to do the rest of the work.
So what is worse for Canelo's career. Losing a decision at 175 , a division that is too big for him, or getting beat up and stopped by a mexican at 168? Pretty clear Bivol/GGG was still the best option.

Of course he thought he could beat Bivol. That's why he fought him.
What's so wrong with that?
You think he had no idea or clue he could lose? Do you think he's an absolute moron?
There were easier fights to take. He took a harder one. But, yes, he thought he could win. Obviously. There's nothing insightful about that comment at all.

Yes it is. Eddie Reynoso thought he was taking the path to least resistance by having his guy fighting a perceived lesser opponent in Dmitry Bivol; Even if it was at Light heavyweight in order to avoid good American fighters like David Benavidez and Jermall Charlo.

This fight wasn't about Canelo taking on challenges or fighting the very best. It was all about Reynoso and Hearn lining Canelo up with some very easy and winnable fights against Euro fighters like: Bivol and GGG who were not expected to win.Comment

He just got beat by a better fighter. Saying he underestimated Bivol makes excuses for Canelo and take credit away from Bivol. The flaws he has always had were exposed by a technically sound and very skilled boxer. He was able to get away with it because no one was able to expose them with the exception of Floyd, GGG and Lara (his toughest fights). If there a rematch, it can be at 168 or 175. The outcome will be the same unless the judges pull off what they almost did Saturday night.I am sorry but I'm not falling for the hook, line and sinker bullshit that Canelo was trying to do something amazing or was daring to be great. If they were to ever rumble again then Bivol would beat his ass some more and perhaps even stop him. With hindsight being 20/20; Canelo should have taken the fight and deal with both Benavidez and the PBC in the first place. I like his chances a whole lot better now against them after his being exposed by Dmitry Bivol.

I’m surprised that nobody ever mentions that Canelo’s work rate and stamina always been his Achilles heel. Canelo’s punch out put mirrors the average heavyweight punch output. He not active at all and if he ever fought a fighter like Benevidez he will drown late in the fight.
Benevidez will have Canelo on the ropes huffing and puffing throwing punches that look like he’s underwater and stop him late.Comment

Like it or not, this is two high profile fights within weeks of each other that the Reynosos lost. I don't know if they underestimated Shakur and Bivol or if they simply had two bad days in the office or both but the Reynosos need to examine what in camp went wrong. Now that I think of it, did anyone hear the corner instructions between rounds in the Canelo corner? I'm curious to know what the Reynosos were telling Canelo.Comment
