Yeah, Toney ate his way up to HW and did ok, but he relied ''heavily'' of his cement chin.
He's a busier version of Broner.

Fighters like Toney & Hopkins would not be bewildered by Alvarez, and they would not be stopped in their tracks off a single punch.

Hopkins is physically stronger than Alvarez on the inside, has better movement, and defense. These are game changing area's.

Toney has a superior offense, and better defense on the inside. Again game changing area's.

The reason why I have brought those two fighters up is because, Alvarez is in and around their level skill for skill. Hopkins may be in no mans land, just above them but not quite on Mayweather & Jones Junior level.

I still think fighters like Carl Froch & Joe Calzaghe would beat Alvarez, I just think they would be far too strong 'Plus their endurance was super elite'. These areas I think can bridge the gap in skill level at times.

If Alvarez has one deficiency, it is that he has a lack of gears.

But yes, Toney & Alvarez are not levels apart. Toney does have a good tactical mind.

Notice how Alvarez's opponents these days, all seem bewildered and reactive. That is because tactically, Alvarez is perceiving more information and is a few moves ahead of them.

This Advantage goes out of the window for Alvarez against Toney & Hopkins.
Most of these. Young fighters have NO AMATEUR experience. Therefore, as professionals they are “spoon fed” continuously.
They never learn HOW to deal with adversity. A good example is the Charlos, Tank, Haney & Andrade……. I give credit to Teo for fighting Loma. That was a very risky move. U don’t see much.

You know I'm surprised no one's caught on to Canelo's cutesy move where he throws out his right hand as a big feint and then pops them with his left. He's been doing that since the Austin Trout fight iirc.

          No it’s a fact.

What evidence is there to the contrary?

            Better footwork ?????

Look at a young Toney, not a lazier fatter Toney. We still dont know how Canelo does against a guy who can really move. Toney's been in there with and has beaten guys with all styles.

                Erislandy Lara
                Billy Joe Saunders
                Caleb Plant
                Dmitry Bivol

These are "movers." Canelo gave to BJS a huge ring. Dmitry Bivol is "mover 175 lber". I wonder what will be your excuse after Canelo beat him.

                  - - U mean the damaged Barkley that entered the ring with a busted up eye?

Duran beat up the prime Barkley fresh off beating up Tommy Hearns.

That why Two Ton ducked Duran who would render the blubber of Two Ton into automotive grease

You got me all wrong, Im a big Canelo fan, and this thread is about comparing skills between Canelo and Toney. Two of my favorite guys.

Now, Canelo looked bad against Mayweather, Lara and even if he did get a stoppage against BJS, the fight was about even until the eye freak injury. Im not saying he was gonna lose, but he didnt look like himself.
