Canelo really shouldn't be fighting at 175 lbs

It's a risky fight for Canelo, he might be biting off more than he can chew against a bigger, undefeated champion with good boxing skills.

I see it as a 50/50 fight, was leaning toward Canelo at first, but the more I think of it Bivol can really pull off the win. He's better than Plant, Saunders, Smith, and the version of Kovalev Canelo beat.

Canelo deserves credit for taking this fight. It would be his best win IMO.

People keep talking weight and how muscular Canelo is. Weight is not really his issue, it's being at a big height and reach disadvantage is what he has to worry about. Canelo was dwarfed by Plant and Smith at 168, now Canelo is fighting a prime champ at 175.

In the current era of boxers ducking hard fights and waiting around for money, I expecially appreciate fighters who are willing to push themselves and reach for greatness. He's still risking his reputation. Right now he is seen by many as some p4p atg goat level guy. If he is beaten up and out boxed, it will fuel the narrative that he isn't really that good and has just been picking his opponents carefully.

I agree with the OP that Canelo is small for a LHW but it is not uncommon for great fighters to move up through divisions.

thats true but if he does end up getting lets say a gift, as we all know can happen, it makes a difference, people will nit pick the fight for all time, nelo needs a clear win and thats what hes banking on, so if he doesnt get that, he wont be happy & neither will his fans, actually the nelo fans i know all think nelo beats this russian guy, if he needs a gift or even if its a very close fight, they will be a bit taken aback i think

The difference, this is a great smaller man, the same reason others have done it, although at some point there is the limit although I don't think Bivol is it, Canelo is a lot better fighter overall.

When Canelo Alvarez was fighting at welterweight, on the night of the fight he was weighing in at close to or over 160 pounds 'Or maybe more, I am sure somebody here knows the exact weights'.

Canelo Alvarez if you are really honest with yourself, is really and has always been a middle-weight fighter.

At the beginning of his career, he was weight draining himself to be the big man. Alvarez felt that he needed to be the big man, in order to beat certain fighters.

This kind of back fired against Floyd Mayweather Junior, as you all know.

Listen guys, I am going to keep bringing this point up. Day before weigh in's create a illusion in boxing, Alvarez right now at 175 pounds 'In my opinion is fighting in and around his natural weight class'.

If the same day weigh in rule was re-introduced, Alvarez would continually be fighting at 168-175 pounds.
