Well here's the thing, PPV is quite obviously a relic. And the prices expected of the consumer ought to make it downright unsustainable, so I'm glad someone else is making the point.

But on the flip side, how are subscriptions gonna work and at what kind of price? I mean, how much boxing does the average person in the U.S. watch per year? This isn't like Netflix, where there's an (apparently) wide range of programs for all types to get into. We're talking about a single-product platform.

Really, I dream of boxing being so popular that adverts alone fund it like the Super Bowl, (well, its free-to-air in the UK), but obv. that will never happen

And that can be a kick but when it comes to who is the driver in boxing it is still the fight fans and what they decide to watch and/or pay for. Most people find it easier to just walk away from the fight game then to decide what they won't watch. This interview was a guy acting like he was giving the fight fans a bit of honesty and truth. But his hand is still deep in the fight fans pockets.
Amen, we need to keep using our collective power, at some point, the sport's money men will get the message

I think it's a shame they want to do PPV. I hate PPV. And they ought to be giving DAZN subbers a break on the price. That's how you reward customers' loyalty, which is good for business.

DAZN has aired a lot of good fight for my sub price. But some of their cards, and ESPN and Showtime, are total garbage. So now I wonder how long until the good fights are only PPV?

If we get there, I'll find another hobby. Sub fees might be better spent on a motorcycle insurance policy.

The subscription only model is really no more, it is just a matter of what they call a PPV worthy fight now. The standards of what is PPV worthy is whatever the fans will pay for is what that amounts to. I know that apps are a cheap round about way to get money for fights and fighters but in reality an APP is a PPV just a steady flow of "stuff" being put out there. None of these guys ask themselves how is this good for boxing only how is this good for there Bank Accounts. I got a few good fights from DAZN but come on a lot of it was filler and once they leaned into YOUTUBERS and assorted other so called fighters it was telling its future.

Folks need to stop taking these initial promotional campaigns seriously. DAZN was trying to make an imprint in the US market so they said PPV was dead and went on a crazy spending frenzy. Not all that dissimilar to other startups but eventually you need a return on your investment. How exactly is DAZN supposed to make any money without PPVs? They have been unable to secure other big sports leagues rights so it is only boxing and boxing is a niche sport. Without PPV, they will continue losing more and more money. You are guaranteeing Canelo 160M in 2022 alone. No amount of subscriptions will get you to that amount and that isn't even bringing up the operating costs, his opponents purses and other cards.

Boxing is an expensive sport to be a fan of but it is what it is. Clearly combat sports will not get invested in like the NFL, NBA etc. So it comes down to just how much you are willing to spend. Luckily for those who don't want to pay for PPVs or just simply can't afford them, there are other avenues to watch the fights. It is what it is.

So now does that mean we’re going to also have to pay 60 bucks to watch Anthony Joshua when we always only watched him on subscription before? Has his price gone up that much after he was dominated? That’s where you can see the complete lie being given to us here. Canelo is one thing but now charging for Joshua shows this is a money grab

Of course these companies will always do what makes business sense. As I said, I very rarely buy PPV's. Might boycott them entirely. With there being ways of watching without paying for the PPV's, we'll see how many people are still willing to pay for PPV's in the future, especially considering a lot of the top fighters don't even fight each other. As always the market will decide if something is a viable option or not.

Bye bye DAZN lol. Eddie Hearn burned their money on fights no one wanted to see no one is signing up for new subscriptions matchroom boxing throwing all their eggs in the canelo basket but that’s gonna last 2 fights and DAZN boxing will fold after. Why would they keep pouring hundreds of millions and getting no return? Lol
