Is fan loyalty much stronger in MMA than Boxing?

And Canelo made more alone than every fighter purse on that card combined and multiplied by 3 hahaha.
You can say that's because Canelo is not nearly as popular nor does he have the amount of devoted (non-Mexican) fans as people think.
Remember this iconic image of 'Nelo's PPV fight being delayed to allow the Masvidal vs Nate Diaz fight to be done lol

Globally yes, my Comment is more about the type of fans we have here in the U.S.
British Fans for example are completely different. They still support guys like Chisora and they Support Katie Taylor so this doesn't apply to them because they're not as FICKLE as the fans here in AmericaComment

McGregor has played a blinder really. He has a ton of fans but also a ton of haters, when he fights they all tune in.
I think MMA fans are loyal to their sport. MMA fans are often mocked by boxing fans, but I never see any of them celebrating good fights falling through, or making excuses for good fights not being made. In boxing the fans do that all the time.Comment

I think this is the essence of the difference. MMA and their fans are generally more tolerant of losses than alot of boxing fans. In MMA, there are more variables that mean upsets (and thus losses) can happen that don't necessarily signal the downfall of a fighter's career. They also don't have quite as many "soft" fights. You regularly see guys in MMA lose 2,3 in a row then win one, get a title shot and win that.
I think in MMA they understand, styles make fights, a lot of fighting is on the night and a loss doesn't mean you are finished. In boxing especially because of Floyd, losses are the end of the world.
At some point boxing and the fans became obsessed with perfection and undefeated records to the detriment of seeing the best facing the best.Comment

I bet MMA fans have more fun being fans than boxing fans do. They get to watch top level fights all the time without waiting years to see them happen. Boxing is it's own worst enemyComment

1) A lot of people buy Conor fights to see him get his ass kicked
2) Losing is more common in MMA because theres less cherry picking, and (Nate aside, bad stylistic match up) Conors losses are to elite fighters. At this point theres still a belief that he could be a threat to some top guys.
3) MMA has more of a watch party type culture and people buy fights often because they just like the sport and want a night of good entertainment.
KSW did like 60'000 people in attendance for a domestic show in Poland a few years back. A lot of the Russian MMA orgs are quite big. Pride FC was huge in Japan and Rizin is pretty big now. There are absolutely domestic fights and multiple levels in MMA before you get to UFC level. There is never a big domestic fight in Mixed Martial Arts, why is that? You never see fights being marketed as, big domestic fights. Because nobody cares in that sport about domestic level fights, nobody cares about European level fights 'People only care about super elite level, that is it'.
Theres more to a record than just the win/loss ratio. He won two world titles after 40, competed at UFC level until he was nearly 50, had multiple fights at HW where he was totally undersized, has more worthwhile wins on his resume than Fury does and gets bonus points for being an early entrant into the sport and one of the guys that raised the bar for skill, athleticism and professionalism.
I dunno how anyone could look at Coutures skillset and think he was a bum. He was an olympic caliber wrestler with a high fight IQ. And we didnt even see the best of him, he was already 34 when he had his first fight and still managed to have a good 14 year career with what he had left in the tank.Last edited by TMLT87; 01-09-2022, 03:45 AM.Comment
