I spoke to Ortiz he said he used a technique he learned while sparring Muhammad Ali in the 70s.

That would be good for Hrgovic. Thats a decent scalp to ride on up into the next level with. He should win, Ortiz will be a constant danger.

Well let’s see if Ortiz takes the fight or if they once again have to chase fighters again . Parker would be a much better fight imop due to his chin but the IBF has to go down the list . Last time numerous guys declined the fight that’s why Hrgovic is in the final elimination bout without having fought any elimination bouts that someone tried to confuse you with ,the liar Mr WBC .

Ortiz has shown some slippage yesterday but he still has his pop and his deep amateur pedigree too rely on.
That being said he is ripe for the taking by a young hungry talented upcoming HW in a "sink or swim" type of fight for the young fighter.
Watching Ortiz against Martin reminded me a bit of the first Povetkin and Whyte fight. Both Ortiz and Povetkin legs looked shot, Sasha's probably a bit worse. Both took advantage of defensive/mental lapses of their opponents to turn the tide suddenly with their power and skills.

I've criticized Ortiz in the past and stand by my criticism. Martin was his most relevant win since beating Jennings and it's probably the 2ns best win on his resume. Martin isn't terrible, he's better than the night against AJ, but he also lost a close fight to Kownacki to give you an idea where he's at in the HW landscape.

I don't think Ortiz renaissance lasts very long if he decides to continue to fight meaningful fights (as opposed to more Alexander Flores and Razvan Cojanus).

            I hear you!
At this point, Ortiz "cash out" fight should probably be against Ruiz. That being said, the handspeed of a focused Andy might be trouble for Luis.

Not against that. It would be an interesting fight and nice clash of styles. I'm other posts, it mentioned Ortiz has a fractured hand...might put him on ice for a bit.

This gets into a whole auxillery issue about steriods. A lot of older fighters could use doctor prescribed treatments that are steriodal in nature to help wounds heal... stuff that younger guys don't have to worry about (time wise). I think that happened to James Toney. What sucks is that if these guys were normal and went to a normal doc, there would he no problems catching a healing treatment that had steriods with it.

As it is now, assuming this is not an excuse from Ortiz, you have an already old fighter, with an injury that he must heal from.

Its so unfair to fighters like Hrgovic all these avoidance strategies. We need a tournament!

Might be trouble? Ortiz with virtually no chance against Ruiz. He would need his legs in that one and they’re long gone.

That's a can of worms and a slippery slope and a few other analogies I can't think of. Especially for a fighter who's already popped for tainted horse meat and heart medicine. The possibility of exemptions like that brings back images of Vitor Belfort and his TRT therapy. I see it as an all or nothing situation. Either no exemptions or no regulations.
