Boxing is very limited and one dimensional tbh. They're superb at what they do within that narrow environment, but put them in an open ruleset situation with MMA fighters, kickboxers, muay thai, BJJ'ers, wrestlers, judo, maybe even some better karate styles like Kyokushin, and they're likely to fare the worst of all those styles because they have the most holes in their game to exploit. People with her level of credentials in wrestling, BJJ, kickboxing etc would have likely gotten two first round finishes against the cans she was fed. Olympic judo medallist Kayla Harrison actually debuted against the same opponent that Shields did, and easily stopped her in the first round. -
Like saying soccer is one dimensional because they can’t pick up the ball and run down the pitch.Boxing is very limited and one dimensional tbh. Boxing isn’t trying to resemble a street fight.Comment

I dunno if its the same honestly. Boxing is a combat sport, a lot of its appeal lies in people proving how tough and capable they are in a fight, the HW champ used to be called the baddest man on the planet.Comment

Its very mixed these days. The international talent pool outside of the regular hotbeds has grown a ton. Most of the current UFC champs are from outside those countries.Originally posted by Thuglife NeloI assume most MMA fighters are Brazilian, American, or Russian exclusively.Comment

If it is limited its only when it's outside of the sport it evolved in, different strokes.Boxing is very limited and one dimensional tbh. Inside the sport boxing is as precise as a brain surgeon and no combat sport punches harder, as someone else said a soccer great couldn't compete with a football great, a sprinter cant compete with a marathon runner, non of them are limited they are all precise disciplines within the confines of there sport.
The only way to compare them in one arena is best vs best , you would need Canelo GGG Lomchenko etc to fight a guy their weight in MMA, we seen a soft punching great boxer walk down and stop the baddest MMA guy at the time while giving him 25lbs in weight, you cant compare with anything other than the best, soft punching Sheilds is not the same as a great boxer that puts you to sleep with the clean punches Clarisa landed, if Canelo or GGG landed the very same shots on an opponent its goodnight.Comment

Floyd gave up 25lbs but also took away every weapon Conor could use to stop him quickly and easily. And even then it was underwhelming considering how long it went. Conor should have been out of there within 3-4 rounds. But he went 30 mins, never hit the canvas and won a few rounds.

Claressa was fighting someone who was 3-6 and then after barely scraping through that she fought someone who only had one more fights worth of MMA experience than her. Its not like she was thrown in at the deep end, she was being fed cans and still managed to **** it up.
I'm sure Canelo and GGG would handle the equivalent of the cans Shields was given much better than she did, but if they were fighting anyone halfway decent it would likely look the same or worse. They'd have a slim punchers chance at best.Comment

Kid go back to your MMA forums. You don't know **** about the sport. As another poster accurately said, the point of boxing is not to resemble street fighting in the first place. Maybe less than 1% of mma fans even understand where boxing comes from.Comment

None of those other combat sports resemble "street fighting" either. I pointed out that boxing is limited, which is pertinent to the thread topic, Shields lost because she is one dimensional and the holes in her game were easily exploitable. Not sure how that means I dont know anything about boxing. Why would someone that doesnt know **** about boxing be on a boxing forum? how much do you know about MMA or any other combat sport? you sure you're not just feeling a lil salty?"Boxing is very limited and one dimensional tbh.
