Was RJJ really as great as hes made out to be?(if Calzaghe beat him why does everyone make him sound unbeatable at smw?)

He won a title at heavyweight so he's great. Depending how long an era is id say he was only behind pac and possibly hopkins

Roy resume is suspect tbh. A green bhip, drained tony and then nothing but bums until tarver fight. He fought decent fighters in between but he spent his prime years doing nothing. His defence is also heavily reliant on his legs, if you take that away he is clueless

Montel Griffin, Virgil Hill, Reggie Johnson bums?

Also, how was Toney any more drained for Roy than he was any other fight in his career?

Late 90’s RJJ might be the best P4P fighter I’ve ever seen.
Unfortunately in his prime he was in a weak division and had no real rivals on his level.
Most fights looked like showcase fights because he was just a step above everyone in his weight class.
Weren’t really any all timers for him to fight then.
Prime RJJ smokes any version of Calzaghe.

This is an excerpt from his autobiography - 'No Ordinary Joe' published a year before they fought in 2007:

"I have no interest anymore in Roy Jones and no interest in Antonio Tarver. Jones is washed up and Tarver was never that good anyway. He just caught Jones when Jones was shot and Johnson did the same"

Secondly, Calzaghe beat him in 2008, a time when Roy Jones hadn't beaten a ranked fighter in 5 years and never did again.

So why would that hold any relevance?
Thanks for being the first to say that as I knew someone would (Calzaghe punched like a weak smw & Jones had already competed at hw)

And my point exactly is that Jones was ktfo coldstill at the end of his prime,& when you look at his best wins before that, theres not many atg wins.

They not world beaters are they? Compare his resume against boxers of his status, it just doesn’t stack up. He massively under achieved

His wins over Bhop and Toney and Griffin **** on any Canelo/Calzaghe win imo. And I really like Canelo.

I like Calzagge, but roy would have beat him to death. He would have done him just like he did Pazienza at 168. I was a roy fan until 96. He beat my guy toney at 168 in a fight I picked Toney to win. For the rest of Roy's time at 168, he did absolutely nothing. No fights with Liles, Collins, or Benn and I think he would have beat them all.. Just a bunch of guys that he never lost a single round to. I was disappointed. I didn't have a problem with what he did at 175 though..
