Was RJJ really as great as hes made out to be?(if Calzaghe beat him why does everyone make him sound unbeatable at smw?)

He had to fight him though. People were all complaining about roys level of competition then too and there was Darius the lineal and undefeated champ.

Im biased, Roy is my favorite fighter of all time. He was the best fighter Ive ever seen from the day he turned pro until he dropped back down from HW. There was a wall he hit after the Ruiz fight, there are a thousand opinions what caused it but it was obvious. Its been said before but nobody and I mean nobody beats prime Roy. Im sure there will be people that disagree with me but I dont really care, the vast majority of this forum knows next to nothing about boxing.

Roy was Dazzling at his best, stunning how flashy his movement was against guys like Pazienza, the problem he had was his division was weak for many yrs throughout his long reign off & on,

but his prime ended very abruptly in comparison to todays fighters(he fell off a cliff after 15 fights where he ruled)
He & JCC rank about equally all time imo.

Canelo WAS lineal mw champ when he fought ggg though,so ggg not being lineal is meaningless. Canelo has fought in several fights that would be considered lineal(between#1 &#2) he only lost 1 to Floyd at days past aged 22.

You say he only started losing after going back down(something often pointed out by many) but in reality it holds no significance because before that RJJ had hardly beaten anyone of note & Bhop wasn't at his best yet when Jones beat him(he was barely known back then),he became better at older age,& whooped RJJ in rematch.

Canelo going up to lhw is the same thing as Jones going to HW for 1 fight.(so saying Kov was past it but giving RJJ credit for Ruiz is contradictory)

& Imagine if Canelo gets ktfo after going back down, would he be given same excuse (doubtful)

Who cares if he got knocked down? He ended up getting a draw which should have been a victory. Canelo got rocked by Jose cotto but he still won.

I agree Canelo was lineal mw by beating GGG, but to say Toney is overrated and not a better win than GGG is not true because
          1. Toney was in his his prime (you could argue GGG was because he feasted on bums, but Toney was younger)
          2. Toney was at least a lineal champion at one point (beat michael nunn)
          3. Toney is ranked much higher in p4p lists than GGG
and most importantly 4. while Canelo barely edged GGG, RJJ DOMINATED the whole fight.

Bhop already said that when he fought RJJ, nobody could've beaten RJJ. He only beat RJJ when they were washed. Roy is the better fighter even though Bhop had the longeivity. He only started losing after moving down from HW, that is facts.

Btw Hopkins/Ruiz were both just easy titles for achievements, neither of canelo/rjj best wins would have kov or ruiz imo. Its like when pac went up to 154 to margarito.

Traditional KO, but Poppy the home fighter and Cortez knew who buttered his bread and so bought him some 5 min of time.

For sure, as I said Im biased as fck. I think his reign was much more than 15 fights. I remember the first time I saw him early on in his career, I thought we have never seen anything like this. I dont understand people hating him but I also dont care. I enjoyed every minute of every fight I watched. I got to see them live and in context, alot of these guys talking shit about him were still shittting their pants or werent alive when he was ruling the 90s.

Would’ve liked to see him in with the UK super middle weights in his prime.
