This is a lot of hating. Cotto vs Mosley was very close and most had t 115-113 for Cotto, which means he won by a single round. Since then Mosley has rebouded big time, and has looked great, and Cotto has never looked as good as when he fought Mosley. Forget what anybody says, Margarito beat Cotto fair and square, took the number one spot, and then god DESTROYED by Shane which gives him the spot. I'll take a razor thin loss, and then a domanant ruthless KO win over the number one guy over a razor thin win and a career ending ass kicking loss any day.

The multi-division champion has long been one of my favorites, both for obvious skill in the ring and affable demeanor outside it.

He's a good fighter, and more importantly in the long run, a good guy.

But the constant rant that he's the No. 1 welterweight in the world and the accompanying whine that every fighter within 10 pounds seems to be avoiding him is getting old.

To counter his claims, I'll prevent a few facts.

In late 2007, after beating the not-quite-Murderers Row of David Estrada, Jose Luis Cruz, Fernando Vargas and Luis Collazo, he made a grab for the WBA welterweight crown then held by Miguel Cotto.

And lost. Decisively.

Not on a robbery. Not on a verdict that prompted protest. But unanimously in the eyes of the judges, who gave Cotto 21 of a possible 36 rounds across three scorecards, with one round even. [details]

cotto got the decision in MSG.... someplace else and mosley would've gotten the decision.

shane fought & beat margarito january of 09. its now september. he couldve had 2 fights by now vs berto, paul williams, cintron, or whoever & have had 2 paychecks, 2 possible great wins, a leg up on fighter of the year, stay current in boxing fans minds, & have major bargaining chips vs any big fighter.

Instead he remained inactive complaining about not getting fights & getting older. He completely killed all the momentum he had with that margarito victory & might have killed any semblance of a fanbase or the little notoriety he had to begin with.

He was so busy trying to get boxing rich fast by playing the pacquiao mr.counterfeit cash lotto instead of working for his money like a blue collar boxing professional.

Horrible career decision.

Mosley deserves a BIG fight!

IMO i think that even if Margo had the loaded gloves when he fought Shane it wouldn't of mattered.Shane made Margo look like a B rated fighter.Thats something that Cotto was unable to do.Hey! if you don't get hit,it doesn't matter what the other guy is swinging at you.

I agree with the writer here. I like Shane but if he's so NOT interested in fighting for money, then why sit on the shelf for a year waiting to cash in? When all is said and done, justice has been served to Mosley, in the form of Joshua Clottey. He's just the type of high risk/low reward fighter Mosley WASN'T looking for.

Shane lost a DECISIVE decision to Cotto? When did they have the rematch then? Because the 1st fight was CLOSE and COMPETITIVE. After that Shane goes and whoops Tony who everyone else avoids like the plague and all of a sudden he needs to go away? What a ****** article. Shane got a few fights left and only an idiot wouldn't want him to fight Mayweather and give him a real welterweight challenge.
