Is Floyd About Level In Skill w/ SRR/SRL/Duran/Benitez

Say what. Srl could stick and move with the best of 'em but even against prime Hearns he didn't run.
Why you think those guys are levels above Floyd, even though Floyd is more "skilled".

Benetiz certainly isn't levels above. SRL and SRR are above due to their size and being able to compete as high as light heavyweight. Floyd and Duran would split trilogy in close fights.Comment

ha at 130 floyd was a good (in your words) offensive fighter against who? and prime srl @ 147 lbs was a great fighter offensively, defensively against atg fighters in their prime...one of the absolute greatest....
Oh so you understand now you dummy
What needs explaining? At 130 Floyd was obviously a good offensive fighter, had every punch in the book, speed, power, timing, accuracy etc
Leonard whilst defensively sound was never a defensive wizard. Had obvious holes there at times.
That’s why I think that. It’s certainly up for debate.
You Floyd Boys keep pedestalizing mediocrity....

Against the best fighters at 130. He cleaned out the division and stopped all of them. Floyd is the most accurate puncher of his era, that is good offensive ability obviously.
Leonard never showed “great” defensive ability. He’s not someone you’d point to for a great defensive wizard is he?Comment

No I asked against who specifically. Manfredy? Lol. 130 could have been a weak division. No Hof/Atgs in their prime?

Srl could certainly make you miss and make you pay, and he did it against atg's in their prime, and he certainly had the talent to be just a defensive genius but we talking about a different era.
Thats the difference between "good" and "great"
Its a big difference that you can't ignore.Last edited by djtmal; 08-06-2021, 04:04 PM.Comment

I do think Floyd beats Benitez but not fighting off the front foot. He could definitely outbox him off the back-foot. I’d pick Floyd in a head to head matchup.Comment

Benitez wouldn’t be easy for Floyd. I do think Floyd would beat him head to head but I don’t think he could beat him off the front foot like Ray did. Benitez was a pretty big Welter, Floyd doesn’t have the strength or pop to walk him down. He could beat him off the back foot though.
Hearns, no.
Benitez? Easily. Floyd is levels above Benitez in every area.
I don’t know, Leonard was outboxed and outskilled for long periods in the first fight with Duran.
Defense is not something I would consider a strong point for Leonard, or Robinson. Obviously both have solid defensive skills, but I still wouldn’t consider their defensive ability to be as good as Floyd’s offensive ability (as a younger man)
Obviously both are leaps and bounds ahead of Floyd in the offensive department. But I wouldn’t say they are more complete fighters than Floyd.
It’s obviously subjective man but I think both are more complete than Mayweather. I would say Mayweather was a B+ offensive fighter and an A+ defensive fighter. Whereas I’d give Leonard an A+ for offence and probably an A- for defence. Ray Robinson I’d give A+, A especially when compared to other fighters in his era. Ray was way ahead of his time in the way he moved and used reflexes as opposed to the high guard or cross guard.Comment

I think he could beat him easily on the front foot, flat footed, standing right in front of him. Benitez brings nothing to the table that would trouble Floyd, it’s a perfect style match up for him and Benitez does nothing better than Floyd. IMO.

Definitely would never consider Robinson or Leonard A level defensive fighters. Never saw Robinson in his prime so talking a past prime Robinson so maybe that’s unfair to say. But from what I’ve seen of both, saw Leonard live, definitely not A level defensive fighters.
Like you say though, opinions. It’s certainly debatable.Comment

Floyd has made a lot of money boxing, but nobody he beat suggests to me that he could really hang with even a low man on the totem pole like Benitez.
The best ww in their prime Floyd beat was Ricky Hatton. I will let that sink in for a minute.
If that was the case, right now he would be top 10 atg, but we know he barely cracks top 30Last edited by djtmal; 08-06-2021, 04:59 PM.Comment
