Mayweather/Marquez: Ticket Prices Tell The Story

With Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr's return to the ring only 17 days away, the true story of his success against Juan Manuel Marquez may well end up being measured in the ticket prices that his comeback bout are garnering. [details]
also, Mayweather & Golden Boy have been trying tons of different things from a promotional point of view for this fight. Like cheap ticket prices, reasonable hotel room prices at one of the best hotels in the vegas strip, Tecate Rebates which would make the the PPV only cost 20-25 bucks, showing it in movie theatres, broadcasting in england and on regular TV in Mexico etc etc in hopes of expanding the boxing market and Mayweathers fan base. Alot of haters are knocking all of these ideas with the assumption that Mayweather isnt a draw and they are desperate...which I dont agree with.......
Mayweather has numerous big fights ahead of him, and while I dont belive this fight will do as good as his fight with Hatton or DLH it will still put up #'s and the overall experience for new fans of the sport.
Its amazing at how people will diss this fight event with all of its positives from the Theatre experience to the actual undercard of the fight yet they praise the high ticket prices for the Cotto-Pac fight and the crappy card it will have......
had all of these incentives that the Mayweather fight is offering been involving Manny Pacquiao EVERYONE would praise the idea that Manny Pacquiao is bringing the sport of boxing back...but when Mayweather does it....he isnt a draw and its an act of desperation......

Although Marquez is known by boxing fans, the casual fan doesnt know who Marquez is...

all along i've always said,it was oscar and hatton the reason he did well,i mean come one,do casual fans really like his style? is his boxing style the one to bring new fans to the sport?..if i wanted to get someone to become a fan of boxing,i would invite this person to my house to watch someone like marquez(skill but also gives good fights),guys who give the fans their moneys worth,,,if i take them to watch mayweather they will probably just look bored,i honestly don't think people watch him because he's exciting, they watch him because of his opponent(oscar, hatton, gatti),believe me,it's not him,he talks too much, thats why he brings all this attention to himself...Comment

I think they're taking an innovative approach, but that said, i dont believe the fight will sell very well. You're counting on the hispanic population and boxing enthusiasts to carry the PPV sales. This isn't a fight that's easy for the general public to swallow. A loud mouth against a quiet mexican guy? This is going to sell better than his Baldomir but not as well as Hatton or DLH. The economy is also not where it was when he fought Baldomir.Last edited by mexpwr915; 09-02-2009, 01:40 PM.Comment

It serves Floyd right he thinks he's the biggest name in boxing and this will clearly show that he's not. People are tired of Floyd talking ****, not delivering and chosing who he wants to fight not who the fans want to see him fight.Comment

Im sorry man, If im showing someone a boxing match, I am going to show them the best technical fighters..not just cause someone is exciting...Show them the best of the best. By your logic of "exciting" I would be showing people Mayorga fights or gatti fights..... if you want someone to learn the sport of basketball, you dont show them highlights of Tracy McGrady,...You show them Kobe....same rules apply to boxingComment

IDK, but I know Mayweather and his team are taking necessary steps to bring boxing into the mainstream on many levelsComment
