I agree, nothing special about him. The kid has talent but no pop and thats his downfall.

But Lopez is a bigger kid and will very quickly have to contend with whether his power will carry... I don't think Ali was under 22 when he defeated Liston... Is that true? If you know this to be I will take your word for it...

And your talking about a fighter who is an ATG among ATG's! You don't need Lopez to show what Ali did to call him talented do you? Im going to ask you a question and then answer it,you can answer it as well if you like: "What is it that makes Lopez special compared to Haney?" "Nothing in particular, Lopez has more power which might well change as both kids grow, and there is no specific thing that determines such that Lopez, or Tank, for that matter posseses."

Im also going to say I used to think power was the thang in the lighter divisions... Then two things taught me the error of my ways: Juan Ma, who I thought looked like a pint size Joe Louis (I know I know....) and Broner... Both guys started with a huge and special advsntage for the light weights: POWER. And one man died with it in his cold dead hand (figuratively speaking) when he could not accept that someone could out slug him (Juan Ma), the other showed that power does not carry up absolutely, or even relatively. Both Juan Ma and Broner actually had real talent, I would argue BTW.
Lopez beat Vasyl Lomachenko the current P4P #1 or #2 and arguably the greatest amateur of all time to become the unquestionable #1 fighter in the 135 lb division. That’s what makes him special compared to Haney. There’s no “eye test” with Lopez anymore he’s proven he’s elite.

Haney on the other hand has looked underwhelming versus past prime versions of Linares and Gamboa and even looked poor vs that scrub on the YouTubers undercard. There is nothing to suggest this kid is special based on eye test, performances or resume.

Haney could prove me wrong in years to come but I just don’t see it tbh man.

I’m not excusing that whatsoever. I’m on record saying Garcia should have fought Haney after beating Campbell. However, if that fight happens I firmly believe Garcia knocks him out.

You know how many fighters "had nothing special" before they became the full package through experience?

You know how many fighters "had something special, this guy will be a world champ!+" and achieved NOTHING

          Andre Ward?
          Adrian Broner?

TERENCE CRAWFORD HAS 0 LEGACY FIGHTS & HE IS A QUALITY BOXER.

Ward had elite pedigree man. It was only the casuals who were doubting him. Like guys who have doubts about Stevenson now. I remember getting 10/1 on him winning the Super Six. Wish I’d put more on it tbh, I had big bets on him to beat Froch and Kessler too.

I think Lopez deserves a lot of credit for that win... Of course a lot of people are dismissing that fight (I don't agree with dismissing the fight), and explaining away his win. I think Lopez is a talent also. I mean at the end of the day I think all these guys are going to have many trials and tribulations. I once defended Larry in his assertion that Broner was going to be a special talent, because it is easy to be seduced by an edge going in to a highly competative undertaking. I have come to believe that talent alone is not enough, anymore than power alone... and even when a fighter has it all, one never really knows what will happen.

I just know that real outstanding natural ability in anything is very rare. You would have to scour the country to find 100 kids with a genius level IQ. Ted Williams and Roy Jones had reflexes that were such that people said Ted Williams saw an 85 mile fastball like a g****fruit lol.

Yes but its true what he said about Ward. BTW agree totally about Ward and the super six, same here... But with Ward there is no obvious "million dollar man "we have rebuilt him!" type super powers... Not like Jones, by comparison. Doesn't make him any less great... Again Bach could play the piano as a virtuosa at like 8 years old, doesn't make him better composer than Mozart who developed along regular lines. Charles Darwin, Sigmuend Freud... Two of the most influental thinkers in history... not very high IQ... as compared to Einstein...

                  Nothing "Special" about Haney....
                  or Tank Davis
                  or Teofimo Lopez
                  or Ryan Garcia

honestly, they have their little annoying fanboys already who LAUGHABLY try to compare this group to that 4 Kings ERA? Oh You Gotta Be Sh%tting Me! That is Insulting to even try to compare these guys to those Legends this early in their careers. Now that doesn't mean these guys are not good, all are talented but neither have accomplished much yet besides Teofimo Lopez who has the best Resume of them all BY FAR and All of the Belts (well mostly all the Belts...way to go WBC)...beyond the Belts Teofimo BEAT THE MAN which makes him THE MAN at 135 like him or not.

Look forward to seeing how this plays out for years to comes since all are young. It is guys at 130-135 who upside I like more than these 4 though and Shakur Stevenson and Chris Colbert are 2 of those guys who I Feel can be far more COMPLETE than these 4. Shakur Lacks that Big Power too but he is more technically sound than even Haney IMO. While Colbert can do it all, he can Box, Brawl on the inside and get Stoppages

At least the 135 version of AB actually looked impressive whilst people were hyping him up as the future of the sport.

There’s no way in hell this kid could hang with Teofimo or Tank. Even Ryan Garcia walks through him IMO.
Good win for Haney tonight but I fully stand by this.

Good fighter but absolutely nothing special about him, the comparisons to Floyd are absurd.

I was wrong. I thought he’d come out and put on a dominant performance and maybe even get a stoppage.

He got a win over a top opponent which is always a good thing.

                      Is what it is.
