There is absolutely nothing special about Devin Haney.

  • I like Haney, but he's a weird specimen. If you close your eyes and listen to the sound of his punches landing, it sounds like he could hit decently. But, in reality, he can't punch at all.

He also gets too excited and tries to fight on the inside. Past few fights show that this is his weakness. He doesn't really know how to fight effectively on the inside, he primarily relies on his length and reach to sharp shoot on the outside

And this will be his downfall. He already said that he has trouble making 135. When he goes to 140, he'll having absolutely nothing to hold these fighters off. I could see him getting stopped in the later rounds against a world class 140 pounder. His defense seems to fade in the later rounds.

Combine that with his lack of power to hold people off and his shaky chin, this could be a recipe for disaster whenever he decides to move up. You atleast have to have a good chin and a consistent motor to offset the lack of power. I see many people mention Paulie on here in comparison. Paulie had a solid chin, which offset his lack of power. He was able to out punch his opponents without showing bad body language from getting hurt. Gotta be durable when you don't have power

You seriously couldn’t see it? Sky/Hearn were pushing Tennyson hard. Johnny Nelson was claiming he would stop Tank.

And then after Hughes beat Straffon…

It’s besides the point anyway, the main point is Haney clearly isn’t this special talent a lot people thought he was.

You’re spot on with that first sentence, people bought into the fact he was some technical wizard when in reality he’s an athletic guy with good speed and accuracy.

Kambosos vs Haney is actually a very close fight IMO. I think Kambosos lacks the size and power to get to him. I actually slightly favour Haney.

Even though, I don’t rate Ryan Garcia too high, I actually think he blitzes Haney. I just think he has the size and raw power to walk through him.

Styles make fights as they say.
Haney/Garcia fought like six times in the amateurs and they split 3/3. Obviously they were kids but they were evenly matched then and it would be a good fight now.

Haney does not have the ability to catch and shoot in the pocket. He tries but ends up getting hit clean. Floyd's footwork was so much better since he had MEANINGFUL movement and knew when to move and when to sit on his shots. Haney just goes through the emotions at times and moves when he does not have to. But I thought he body work was great and he landed some sweet counters at times...Just not consistent enough. But he is only 23 years old and beat a good fighter in Jojo. Not bad but Floyd he is not!

Do you think he beats George in Australia

I don’t always buy into the amateur stuff though. Travis ****inson beat George Groves in back to back ABA finals in the amateurs, imagine how that would have went in the pros. Just looking at it stylistically, I think the matchup really favours Garcia.

Haney has some good attributes no doubt, nice jab, good counter uppercut, he picks his punches well aside from that silly overhand, but as you said he’s nowhere near Floyd. Maybe Floyd Sr.

Potentially yeah, I think it’s a favourable stylistic matchup for Haney. He’ll be able to utilise his length against Kambosos.

I think you've got a bad read on this one. Kambosos is MUCH bigger than Diaz and I think he'll be able to easily walk down Haney. I think Kambosos stops him.

Oh for sure, amateur wins doesn't always translate in the pros. But both sort of have the same type of styles now. Garcia looks stronger but he has his flaws as well. But I rate Garcia higher than most, think he is live with all these top guys.

Jojo was the better technical fighter in there but he let Haney's speed impact him too much. Held back just like he did vs GRJ and it was for similar reasons. Really solid fighter though, he will make you always work for it.

Not going to lie, I always enjoy watching Tennyson. He's either going to spark someone out or he's getting sparked out. The ol' glass hammer. Limited but entertaining.

At least the 135 version of AB actually looked impressive whilst people were hyping him up as the future of the sport.

There’s no way in hell this kid could hang with Teofimo or Tank. Even Ryan Garcia walks through him IMO.
I hear a lot about what Tank, Teo, and Ryan “would “ do against Haney but nobody seems willing to fight him.

I wish they would share your confidence and walk through Haney like everyone thinks they would.
