Lewis didn’t duck Ruiz. He fought Michael Grant, who deserved the shot way more than Ruiz did, and the WBA stripped him.

I know Lennox had a mando with Ruiz that he ducked out of to fight Grant. That's easy. It's easy to look at WBA ratings in 2000 as well. WBC is less so, and the IBF kind of doesn't matter because that's like right at the same time as the FBI nonsense and purchased ratings.

Point is, what earned Grant the spot and not Ruiz? His resume isn't exactly great..his unterbelts are nothing special either. John by contrast doesn't have much but without more narrative and atmosphere it looks like, to me, Ruiz has a champion on his resume by 2000 while Grant's got a couple decent contenders. They both top out as NABF champions on the unterbelt front, and Ruiz is the one whose number one rating is made very clear in every background for Lewis-Grant online but Grant's rating is not so easy to find.
