A fighter who strongly desires to continue gets up, screams at his cornermen and pushes his way back to the center of the ring to fight another round. A fighter who needs to continue protests when the fight is waved off. Billy just sat there quiet as a church mouse. However good his reasons were, he plainly DID NOT want to keep fighting. Nobody buys Davison's story.
Nobody is saying BJS had to be held back from continuing the fight. Look at the video of what happened in the corner. Davison whispered something into Billy's ear, and Billy shook his head, just like Ben said. It actually looked a lot like what happened in Joe Frazier's corner when Eddie Futch pulled him out of the 3rd fight with Ali. Futch said something to Joe in the corner, Joe shook his head, then Futch stopped the fight. Frazier didn't scream at Futch or push his way back to the centre of the ring, or any of that stuff. He accepted his trainer's decision, because deep down, he knew he was in no state to continue, no matter how much he might have wanted to. Same thing with Billy Joe.

It fits the narrative. Billy Joe was surging, getting the best of Canelo, until he was hit by a lucky punch. It makes sense he wanted to continue, he was coming on. Only that didn't happen.

There's no proof that he told his trainer he wanted to quit either. Like I said, that video is 100% bull****.

He was coming on though. He won rounds 5, 6 and 7, and he was doing well in the 8th till he ducked into that uppercut.

More like when Frazier quit against Ali in Manilla.

Canelo signed an agreement with the WBC that he would fight GGG next if he beat Cotto. That was a condition of GGG stepping aside to allow Canelo/Cotto to take place. After he won the 160lb title Canelo requested a voluntary defence before fighting Golovkin, which GGG agreed to. After he beat Khan, Canelo reneged on his promise to fight GGG next and relinquished the WBC title. He didn't fight Golvkin until 2 years after he beat Cotto. GGG was 35 years old by then.
                You're right, I stand corrected.

But when was GGG in his prime? You said so yourself, he was 33 when Canelo first won his major title at MW.

So 33-34 was his prime, and then 35 he was past prime? The two years Canelo was fighting at 155lbs, that was GGG's prime? That's a very short prime.

So Canelo's window to face a prime GGG was just a 2 year window. But GGG was favored to beat Canelo by KO in the first fight. So he only became past prime after his fans saw he wasn't able to beat Canelo by KO.

Sounds like you guys have everything covered.

I guess if Canelo loses against Plant, his fans can just claim he was past prime and Plant just waited to get an old Canelo?

That is one of the issues with boxing debates. Defenses for fighters are all about convenience. As long as the shoe fits. If GGG KO'ed Canelo in their first fight as his fans predicted, I guess he would have still been prime? So his prime, past prime conditions are solely based on if he gives a favorable performance to his fans. So vs Ouma he was past prime, but then resurrected and became prime again. He then conveniently lost his prime vs Jacobs and Canelo, the two best fighters he had faced in his career at that point. Gained it back in his destruction of Martirosyan. Lost his prime vs Canelo in the rematch. Gained it back vs Steve Rolls. Lost it vs Derevyanchenko. And is back to being prime as of his TKO win vs Szeremeta. Or if he's past prime now, why do his fans want to see a trilogy with Canelo? Why would his fans want poor old GGG to get in there and possibly suffer a brutal KO vs Canelo? Why not call for him to retire if he's now past his best?

The facts are that Canelo gave up his title to avoid GGG and didn't fight him till 2 years later when Golovkin was 35 years old and starting to show his age in the ring.

They couldn’t even get their stories straight. Yeah right he wanted to come out, he was quieter than a churches mouse. He would just have to take this one on the chin.

Nothing more nothing less, to save face. Due to BJS putting his foot in his mouth when DDD quit his own fight too. At the end of the day, no one wants to see these guys injured. People are just calling BJS out on his own words, and no amount of covering by his corner or Matchroom/IFL goons would change that he quit when he said he would continue fighting with two broken sockets.
