Cotto may need to prove he handle bigger guys before he can be considered top pound for pound. Pacquiao earned his spot by moving up in weight classes that made him a six division world titlist. Beating Manny Pacquiao will not prove that Cotto can beat fighters in neighboring divisions. In case Manny loses to cotto (I have a feeling this won't happen), Cotto will move up in rankings but within number 3 to 5.
A win for cotto means #1 pound for pound?

but if pac beats cotto, he moves down for making history and winning 2 titles against a dominant WW?
get out of here with that ******ed logic. floyd's win over a LW isn't better than pac's win against a WW, nor would cotto's win over pac mean more than marquez's win over floydComment

how is floyd #1 for beating the underdog but cotto is #5 for beating the favorite?Comment

you know what? i honestly think that even if pac and jmm loses, they will keep there spot on the p4p list for the reason that theyre moving up in weight to fight the big guys
cotto will have a better place in the p4p list but i just cant see him being the #1 by beating pacComment

when floyd was campaigning at welter, he just beat a weak champ and fought against oscar and hatton (neither of them ranked @ 147), yet he still was considered p4p king
you don't have to be #1 in a weight class to be #1 p4p. btw, plenty of people could argue that cotto is #1 at WW. he beat the #1 and #3 guys
btw, your logic is pretty acceptable until you say that floyd beating marquez would put him #1. marquez isn't #1 nor on floyd's weight, so that ****'s ridiculousComment

dont think cotto deserves to be pound for pound number one based off pac fight he needs to beat margarito in a rematch and defeat floyd to truly be number one. the pac fight is not his toughest fight and a win would make him more popular but not prove him to be the best pound for pound fighterComment

If Floyd does a good job he becomes number one.If Manny i very impressive against Cotto he can reclaim his spot but if it's just a win forget it.Dont forget Cotto is not even highly rated,he was gifted a decision against Clottey, fought a bum before than and had lost brutally to Margarito. So right now beating Cotto is not an achievement,it's the way Manny does it which will earn him points
a WW beating a #2 lightweight doesn't deserve more credit than a #1 beating a legitimate WW for a title. no matter how you put it, it just doesn't work that way
btw, i'm still waiting for the official "emeritus p4p champ" rule. where is it?Comment

Rankings dont work that way.Floyd didnt lose in the ring to lose his spot,it was because he wasnt fighting. So you dont have to lose a fight for you to lose your ranking spot.Fighters dont fight on the same day yet rankings change every day, that proves rating are done on a fight by fight basis.
Right now Manny is number one and there is a number 2 all the way to Number 10.When Floyd fights and he wins well he gets back to number 1,even if he doesnt become number 1 and becomes number 10 instead,do you think the number 10 fighter will have lost in the ring for him to lose his spot?
I like Floyd, hes my favorite fighter... and I want to see him take the #1 spot back... but I am being fair here, come on.
If you think this is a joke watch the rankings after the Marquez fight.Floyd in a way is an Emeritus number onepound for pound fighter. He only needs to prove he's till the dog for him to be back to where he belonged. If he beats Marquez impressively he will be number one automatically. If Cotto beats Manny,he doesnt become number one,he just moves a few steps up the rankings.Comment

even if pbf beats jmm he doesnt deserve to be the #1 p4p. hes a welterweight who needs to prove himself against legit welters. beat the top guys at 147 then sure, he can be the p4p king againComment

But he did need a win over the man who beat the man... Lets put it like this.. lets say there was only one title (If it were only that easy) and say Cotto won it from Shane, Marg won it from Cotto, and Shane won it from Marg.. Shane would be considered the best..which he is..If Cotto beat Marg tomorrow he's still not ranked ahead of Shane ..Where in Jacksonville do you stay?Comment
