maybe Im wrong, but I never thought Hatton was really a huge ppv draw. unless Im mistaken, Hatton's first PPV fight was against Mayweather, unless his fight with Castillo was PPV and I dont think it was.
generally, that suggests he wasnt a huge name when strictly speaking about the American audience, who would be the ones providing the PPV numbers that were talking about.
Im sure he certainly played his part when it came to the PPV numbers for Mayweather-Hatton, but I always felt that Mayweather was a more of the 'draw'.
More than 8000 brits came across the atlantic, that is a fact. More than 2000 came to see Hatton fight Collazo, another fact. Its not even debatable who the draw was.
It is estimated, perhaps conservatively, that more than 20,000 fans made the 12,000-mile roundtrip from Britain to witness Hatton challenge for the world welterweight title, a bid which was doomed to fail, as long as the virtuoso Floyd Mayweather was standing across from him.
Another 20,000 or so made the trip to see him fight Pacquiao, the guy is a massive draw.
50,000+ in Manchester when he fought a tune up against Lazcano.
The fact cant even be disputed who brought more to the gate. Its impossible to say who attracted more PPV buys. Going by the facts we have though, Hatton was the man.
I hear it all the time on here, that Floyd has to prove himself to be a draw because Oscar carried the 1st card and Hatton carried the 2nd card. At best they say that Floyd was even up or just lower then Hatton but Ricky was definatly the draw.
When it comes to the Oscar fight I will give him his props because we all know who Oscar is but he still broke records with Floyd. No one has more big names on there resume than Oscar and he broke boxing records with Floyd. Dont tell me that Floyd had nothing to do with that. If you think that then youre lying to yourself but again, Ill give Oscar his due.
Hatton though, gets nothing from me. I dont see how people and media guys can sit there and say that with a straight face. Its like they dont even really think about it. I always ask this one question and I still never get a response. Who the hell in the US knew who Hatton was? No one. Sure he's beein in Europe and has some fans coming over but what does that have to do with US PPV sales. No one knew Hatton, no one. It was Floyd that sold that fight in the US and Floyd only. Dont give me this stuff that Floyd hasnt proven anything when it comes to sales or being the draw. Who knew Hatton? Seriously. No one was spending all that money to see Hatton fight. People knew Floyd. Give the man his props
So know one saw him beat Tszyu ?
No one saw him fight Collazo, Urango, Castillo in the US?
