Cotto Does Not Agree With The WBO's Weight Stance

There are no problems with catch-weight matches with titles on the line when both boxers agree to it. In this particular case one team wants to impose the other to make it a title fight when they had already reach a different agreement.

both miguel(cotto) and manuel(pacman) are negotiating.
of course somebody has to oppose the other until they meet in the middle and agree.
otherwise,......there is no fyt!!
i believe this fyt will still happen.

If Cotto thinks that he's getting the short end of the stick, he can easily walk away and look for another boxer to fight with.
That's a fact of life...

As you mentioned it's business and the person who has more leverage can dictate the stipulations that of course will favor him.

But the question is, can Cotto afford to drop the Pacquiao fight?
Is there any other alternative fight for Cotto to get much money as he's getting from the Pacquiao fight?

In short, Cotto seems to be in a position where his current operation may no longer require boxing to live "comfortably". Manny can go play hide and go **** himself for all Cotto cares.

From what I've heard Berto's people were not interested in a match with Cotto. Kind of like when Cotto's handlers didnt think he was ready to face PBF a few years ago. In all honesty Berto shouldnt even have the belt he holds. He needs to step up!

Yes, Berto's handlers made it very clear back then that they didn't feel Berto was ready to face any of the top 3 Welters yet. And it's ridiculous to criticise Cotto for fighting for a vacant belt - if it's vacant, someone has to fight for it! And Cotto has fought far more top 10 ranked Welters than any other Welter has in recent history, which is all that matters.

I wish you could talk to Pac - I'm sure you could persuade him, but his advisers are telling him the wrong things. You're right that fighting Cotto with a 147 maximum weight would do far more for Pac's legacy - win or lose.

If none of you can understand this logic, then don't bother understanding and no one else should bother explaining. If Cotto already agreed to 145lbs, then it shouldn't really matter whether the belt is on the line or not, unless he wants more money. If that is the case which is reasonable BTW, then just say so. If the 2lbs gives Cotto such a huge advantage, then he shouldn't have agreed to 145lbs in the first place, regardless of the belt being on the line or not.
