Subsequently Manny's camp objected. But they should have brought it into the negotiations from the outset if they wanted the title to be on the line. And IMO Cotto is right to make a stand for the integrity of titles. Just because some fighters have set a bad precedent in the past doesn't mean everyone else has to follow them. Fighting for a world Welterweight title but specifying a catchweight in the contract is bull****, and no amount of precedents will ever change that fact.
And the irony is that Manny's camp (especially Roach) say that they want the title to be on the line for the sake of Manny's legacy - but fighting for a bull**** catchweight title won't do much for his legacy. If they really cared about his legacy they would advise him to ditch the catchweight clause and let the normal rules of boxing apply. Win or lose, that would do far more for his legacy.
