Like I said, the only difference between a fighter with great stamina and average stamina is how tense they fight. Most posters on here wont recognize this. However tensing up does suck the air and energy out of you. It's happened to me while sparring, and I put in serious roadwork. However Tense+Stress, makes you use up your energy.
Nate was taking Campbell's shots and Am tired of these freaking headbutts. They always make it a bad fight and screw it all up.
First Clottey vs Cotto and now Nate vs Bradley...
Most amateur fighters train just as hard as the pro's, but they fight tense and they tire within the course of a 3 rounds amateur fight. They aren't fighting any harder, they are simply draining energy by being tense.Comment

No ; I'm just giving him slack.
Quite honestly I get tired of anybody who starts off sentences with things like........
It's pretentious bull**** that reeks of a smarmy attitude.I know this one is going to be hard for most of you, since you have never actually fought.
Like we can't possibly understand anything because we've never laced up the gloves ourselves.
I'm not saying we understand everything ; there's a great deal about this sport I'll never know and I've been watching for over a decade already.
I'll never know what your stomach feels like before a fight.
I'll never know what goes through your mind the night before a fight.
I'll never know what it's like to win a world title.
Etc.......
But to lead off a post of yours with something like that, knowing that some of us here have never boxed ; reeks of a smarmy prick to me.
It's almost like you're looking down your nose at us.Comment

It might come off like that, but I was merely stating a fact. There is stuff Nate was doing that people who have boxed will pick up on, and people who haven't won't.No ; I'm just giving him slack.

It has nothing to do with anyone being better than anyone else. Its just impossible to pick up on some things without first hand experience. Its little things that are not common sense, and that are not visually significant enough for people to pick up on.Comment

I got no problem with you, Shawn. It might come off like that, but I was merely stating a fact. There is stuff Nate was doing that people who have boxed will pick up on, and people who haven't won't.

I'l fully aware of the fact that there are a million things about this sport that I will never learn no matter how much I watch it.
I know you didn't mean for it to seem smarmy ; and that you were only speaking from personal experience.
I'm just totally disappointed that both fights ended in a man quitting on his stool before either of the fights really got good. It's been a long summer of nothing but death and no good fights ; I was hoping for a good dust up tonight.
So I'm basically venting/being humorous.Comment

I completely agree. It's nice to see some common sense around these parts; it is indeed very hard to come by.
There's a new generation of fighters in boxing today. A new generation that brings along a new generation of fight fans too.
More and more of the fighters are getting fast and flashy, lots of movement, lots of punches, lots of flair...
Unfortunately for the sport though is the fact that the new generation of boxing fans have mostly no experience from the sport, its past fighters or anything resembling technical knowledge.
Because under the flash, speed and flair lies very little substance in the majority of cases.
The subtle, almost hidden, techniques from yesteryear are quickly forgotten by the new type of fighters, and are completely gone in the minds of most boxing fans.
When it comes to the fighters we can look at the amateurs to find the reason for this change; The gloves, point system, techniques have all changed. It favours activity and neglects power.
This leads to faster and more reckless fighting/punching, less defence and a more aggressive and un-calculated approach to the art of boxing.
It goes without saying that the fighters with above average speed and punching activity/stamina will do well in the amateurs.
These are the fighters that goes pro too.
The problem, in my mind, arises when this new generation meets the old; Very much like the fight tonight.
Bradley with his flash and flair against the old-school trick-master Campbell.
New fans will look at the flash and flair and think "ohmaGOD his whuppin ass!" while old fans, real followers of the sport will notice the smaller things; things like Shawn pointed out- Checking balance, tapping face in clinches, shoulder-showing etc.
All the time while the flash is coming at him, Nate is looking, watching, sensing the rythm and motion and setting himself up to time the younger fighter.
It is a matter of tactical savvy. It is a matter of experience and knowledge about the sweeter points of the sweet science. It is a matter which very few of you understand.
Which is the problem I mentioned; the majority of fans will short-change the old-school fighter because the lack of flash.Comment
