For better or worse, Floyd has a certain amount of charisma, he's a good looking kid, and he has more talent than most fighters should even be allowed to dream of. Had he marketed himself differently I have no doubt he could have got some major endorsments and put himself in a positive light among the general public. Im not saying he would have been as popular as Ray or Oscar, but he could have been somewhere along those lines.Comment

Early in Floyd's career there had been many opportunities for some major fights he wanted to take part in.
For some reason as he sought to move up in weight, Bob Arum just wouldn't match him up with certain fighters or not promote the fights properly. Maybe Bob wanted to keep him fighting in the lower weight classes. Can't blame him.
Floyd had other plans, so he felt it best to buy out his contract.Comment

I disagree but I understand why you feel that way.For better or worse, Floyd has a certain amount of charisma, he's a good looking kid, and he has more talent than most fighters should even be allowed to dream of. QUOTE=JAB5239;5791838]What do you disagree with? Be specific please.[/QUOTE]
I think its different for every single boxer, if they knew who would translate into a mega star it would be done over and over again. Boxing was more mainstream during Leonard's time, it was easier then and Leonard had his fair share of those who didnt like him also, but nobody likes everybody.
Shane is a nice guy, was undefeated at lightweight, still wasnt the mega star at the time one might think he could have been shaped into, I dont think if he had brought home a gold medal he would be a Leonard. Andre Ward is a nice guy, brought home a gold, but boxing is different today.
Today I think, as then ,you would need a heavy media backing, network tv would help, and definitely an entertaining style, which means you need to bring knockouts. Still even with all that I dont think its a sure thing.Last edited by Bhopreign; 07-30-2009, 02:03 AM.Comment
