I think its different for every single boxer, if they knew who would translate into a mega star it would be done over and over again. Boxing was more mainstream during Leonard's time, it was easier then and Leonard had his fair share of those who didnt like him also, but nobody likes everybody.

Shane is a nice guy, was undefeated at lightweight, still wasnt the mega star at the time one might think he could have been shaped into, I dont think if he had brought home a gold medal he would be a Leonard. Andre Ward is a nice guy, brought home a gold, but boxing is different today.

Today I thnk as then you would need a heavy media backing, network tv woudl help, and definitely an entertaining style, which means you need to bring knockouts. Still even with all that I dont think its a sure thing.[/QUOTE]

Fair enough. But don't you agree he could have given himself a better chance at being thought of along those lines had he followed the route I outlined instead of the one he took? He certainly wouldn't be as disliked by the majority as he is now.

I think he acts this way because it translates into more dollars for him, its controversy. I think he knows he doesnt have the style to generate huge bucks at the weight he is fighting at, if he plays the nice guy role, with his style, I dont think it would help him MORE financially, but with him acting like he does and message boards filled up because of it, he has people repeating his every word when he does speak, and wanting him to lose.

I don't think people blast Floyd for his talent...in that aspect people praise him they blast him for lack of choice in opponents...always taking the safe road, while bigger challenges await in the horizon.
