It's just a saying, not the first time I've heard it. I think the problem is too many people take everything he says literally but only when its to their advantage to heap hate upon him. Oscar was making 15-20 mil a fight during that time, sure Floyd was no Oscar but it would have been silly to sign that extension considering he made much more over those 6 fights.

ANYBODY in the public eye has to expect scrutiny when they say ****** things. To say them repeatedly, you bring hate on yourself.

It may have been a good decision. But a better decision would have been to be more diplomatic about it instead of so insensitive. I have no doubt he cost himself money in the long run with that comment. That was the beginning of Floyd being viewed as spoiled brat with a bad attitude.
