they didn't cut weight as much back in the days.

it's not like it is today.

back in the days people came into the ring under their weight division limit.

ceferino garcia who henry armstrong challenged for the middleweight title for instance weighed in around 155 for his middleweight fights and probably similar in size to miguel cotto.

barney ross who armstrong beat for the welterweight title was no bigger than manny pacquiao.

    different era.

      how so?

you got it all mixed up.

paul williams and arthur abraham would be light heavyweights and heavyweights in armstrong's time.

people were smaller in the old days. they didn't cut weight to fight in a division.

cerefino garcia who armstrong challenged for the middleweight belt was about 5'7 155 lbs. or about the same size as jose luis castillo in some of his lightweight bouts.

Come on Pinky, you know he's just setting an impossible bar so he can put mManny down while lifting his favorite fighter who hasn't accomplished as much as Pac.

          For money, of course.

"So they said, 'We want you to win three championships.' This was a strategy. We had worked this out simply because we were trying to make more money. So they said, 'if you can win three championships, you'll have the flamboyance of a heavyweight.' I said, 'It sounds pretty good to me.'"- Henry Armstrong

he doesn't need to set an impossible bar.

henry armstrong was featherweight , lightweight and welterweight champion all at the same time.

manny ain't never gonna accomplish that.

Thanks. I thought it is for legacy. I thought I found a boxer who box for sheer love of it. The legendary feat was just an requirement for the money motivation. Even as a fan of pac, I acknowledged this as well for pac's achievement.

Right now, only barrera comes close and peter buckley, the guy with the 300 fights with 256 losses.

It's often a combination of both.

And there's other factors like ego, adrenaline rush, sense of identity and purpose, etc..

Those who do it for the sheer love and not for money at all, I'd say those are amateur fighters who have no intention on going pro.
