That's the problem with some of these posters. They automatically think someone is a Floyd nuthugger just because you might not like Cotto or you happen to be a supporter of Paul Williams. They bring Floyd into the equation when this thread isn't even about him. I know I was guilty of bringing up Calzaghe, but that was because Dirt Diggler UK is on this thread.

I'd bet all my points on you being wrong about that, except the bet could never be tested, because Mosley won't ever fight Williams unless Williams beats a top Welterweight first, because he has no reason to, because no one is demanding the fight, because of the fact that Williams hasn't fought at Welterweight for so long and doesn't appear in the rankings any more.
If Williams beat Clottey convincingly, there would be very strong pressure on Cotto and Mosley and Mayweather from HBO to fight Williams, whereas there will be no pressure on them whatsoever to fight Williams unless he beats a top Welterweight contender such as Clottey first.
Williams hasn't fought at Welterweight for over a year now. Many people - including Cliff Rold - don't believe he's capable of fighting at Welterweight any more. So none of the top Welterweights other than Clottey have any reason to fight him. Beating Clottey would put Williams right back in the Welterweight mix.
There was never any serious pressure in the past for Mosley, Cotto, or Mayweather to fight Williams. But if Williams beat Clottey decisively, which no one has ever done before, then the pressure on all three of those fighters would be massive. If Williams turns down Clottey, no one apart from Williams nuthuggers will ever take him seriously again as a Welterweight contender.Last edited by Dave Rado; 07-05-2009, 08:25 PM.Comment

The Ring has made outlandish actions like ranking Pacquiao at 147 after beating Oscar De La Hoya. So why would they not make Williams ranked in two divisions? I think they did it with Calzaghe after he beat Bernard Hopkins. People have to remember the reason why Williams had to leave 147 was because HBO wouldn't buy a Clottey-Williams fight, and they also wouldn't approve of Michael Jennings (Who Cotto went on to fight on a garbage PPV). He should be ranked at 147 if he schedules a fight there. And that is why the Ring is right in this case.Comment

You obviously haven't read any of his interviews. He has clearly said over and over again that he is still a Welterweight, that he walks around at only 150, and that he'll fight at Welterweight again the moment that any of the top Welterweights agree to fight him - but that they are all to scared of him to step up to the plate.Comment

They probably would, as soon he beats a Welterweight. But they never reinstate anyone just based on a scheduled fight, only after the fight has taken place. You seem to be indulging in wish fulfilment.
Right about what? They would not reinstate him until he had fought at the weight, that's against their policy. Otherwise they would have reinstated Mayweather.Comment

Time to go to 154.Comment

Mosley said he isn't interested so he's wasting his energy if he's trying to get that fight. If he beat Clottey there would be really strong pressure on Mosley to fight him. There is absolutely zero pressure on Mosley to fight him now.
If Haye doesn't manage to get a fight with Vitali in September do you think he should refuse to fight anyone not named Klitschko on the basis that they're not the best?Comment
