Roach's Weight Demand Could Collapse Pacquiao vs. Cotto

I'm worried Cotto will be blinded by the $$$$. He has made it pretty clear that he is desperately keen for the fight to be made:
"[Pacquiao] would be the biggest fight and greatest achievement of my career. Everything I have had in my career has been about challenges. Everything I have worked for has revolved around that and I have endeavored to reach certain achievements, and I have achieved," Cotto told Primera Hora.
Most of his fans would rather he fights real legacy fights against top Welterweights. But that doesn't seem to be the way Cotto sees it.Comment

147 lbs.
Hey coach, eliminate the catch weight of 143 or 144 lbs. It has been done for a lot of other fighters and when they lose they'll say, he lost the fight fighting the scale, he was weight drain and blah, blah and all other excuses that they have. Instead make the fights official weigh in at 147 lbs. but the weigh in must done on the day of the fight. This way no one is accusing the other fighter of being unfair. No matter what happens, Cotto will come out bigger before or after the fight and that's the fact. Let's get it on folks!

One can only speculate but all the evidence I've seen indicates that although he doesn't get involved in the detailed negotiations, Pac makes all the decisions. If he wanted the fight to be at 147, he'd tell Arum to make the fight at that weight. Almost all of the Pinoy fans on these boards have said they want the fight to be at 147; and if that's typical of how the real fight fans in the Philippines see things, I just wish their views could somehow be relayed to him.I actually think Pacquiao would be prepared to fight him at 147, and as you say it would do more for his legacy to beat Cotto at that weight. I think it's his team that are doing all the negotiating and trying to get Cotto to fight at an uncomfortable weight, Pacquiao has always said he'd fight whoever his management put in front of him.Comment

True, But i didn't mentioned that he was at 148 come fight night. I was just making mt point that it would be actually easier and lest riskier for Pacman to gain the 4 lbs (which he has done recently) than Cotto loosing them (which he has not done in 3 years).
By the way Dave, you have some good post here and they all make a lot of sense.Comment

pacqiao needs to show some heart and just fight the guy at 145 or 147. Warriors like duran and henry armstrong never asked for a ****in catchweight. obviously roach is afraid that his fighter will lose which i know cotto will be him. he's trying to get an advantage by having cotto come down.Comment
