cotto can fight other welters.

solves the problem.

manny can just wait for jmm-floyd winner.

he can meet jmm at 140 or 138 or even at 135.

floyd wouldn't be a problem size wise at any weight because floyd doesn't come in the ring at 160-165 as cotto does anyway.

for his fighter the lower the weight the better.

no matter what the weight is , cotto will weight 10-15 lbs. more than his fighter.

the lower he gets the weight the closer it is to cotto being 10 lbs. heavier instead of 15.

i don't agree with it though.

just let manny fight a tuneup at 140 and then wait for floyd-jmm winner.

1. so Cotto will come in weighing more, is that automatically going to make Cotto win the fight? I'm pretty sure DLH, David Diaz and probably even Ricky Hatton weighed more than Manny on fight night, so I ask, is Cotto weighing 10 lbs more on fight night THAT big a deal? Didn't Henry Armstrong give up a good 6 or so pounds (dunno exact # so feel free to correct) against opponents

and if Arum is trying to hype up Pacquiao as "the modern day Henry Armstrong" what's the big deal about Cotto weighing more than Pac?

2. and regarding the Pac would be discredited anyway. well don't you agree that just about EVERYONE to a certain extent can discredit a win .. if you REALLY think about it.

It's not only a business, it's also a sport, and when boxing loses its credibility as a sport, it will lose is viability as a business.

And unlike Roach, I think Manny does care about his legacy, and he is in danger of throwing away a chance to reach for the stars and achieve true greatness, and to be rated alongside fighters like Henry Armstrong.

I used to think that Pacquiao was a completely different kettle of fish from Floyd Mayweather, and that he puts legacy above risk-free money, but his reputation in that respect is being seriously damaged now.

Good points, but I honestly don't see him damaging his rep.

Did you think Cliff Rold's article was preachy, moralistic BS? To me it summed up why I love boxing.

I only scanned it quickly, I don't feel like analyzing all of it and absorbing the minute details, but Cliff is a decent writer who put his thoughts across without sounding too preachy, as far as I can see. I have my own ideas on this whole thing, though, and I prefer to keep things real simple: Here we have a 140lb'er and a 147lb'er. It makes perfect sense to me if they fight at 143.5lb. You cannot really get any more of a level playing field than that. But to be perfectly honest, I don't give a crap abut the weight they fight at! They'll work something out. If dropping a few pounds means not being able to fight effectively, if it's a real problem to get to the weight, don't sign the contract. Again, I like to keep it as simple as that.

Regarding my previous comment, what I'm whining about is some of the guys on this site (not necessarily yourself -- you know I have always appreciated your sense talk here) that keep ****ing on about how much of a bastard Roach is, as though he's this evil figure who's killing boxing. Boxing is fine! This is only one fight! I just think people over-react about stuff that's nowhere near as important as they are making out.
