Some of you guys don't know what the hell you're talking about.

A welterweight crown can be contested at ANY weight inbetween 141 and 147 lbs.

147 is the LIMIT as to how much you can weigh.

They can fight at 144 or 145 lbs and still fight for the belt as it falls in the defined minimum to maximum for the welterweight division.

Some of you guys need to get that through your heads.

Cotto's the much bigger guy weight wise when coming into the ring. If he can't fight effectively by weighing in at 144 or 145 lbs (which by the way falls in the welterweight category) he shouldn't take the fight.

And if Pac beats him he will hold a legitimate welterweight crown as the fight was contested WITHIN the recognized welterweight division's weight class (anywhere between 141 - 147 lbs)

actually if the fight contract says that the limit is 145, its not for the title..... the welter weight title can be fought from 141-147 true, but if contract prohibits fighting over 145, than the title cant be at stake.....

If that's the case and Cotto and Pac are the same size as you say, then Cotto wouldn't have problems coming in at 142 during the weigh in right?

It's not the same when one fighter comes to fight at 148 and the other comes to fight at 158-160. Surely, that's not up for debate right?

Exactly. Anything over 140 is Welterweight.
