You aren't doing well until you have people hating on you.
Overrated, quitter, bum, heartless etc. These are all terms of validation.
Saw the fight again last night and the first word that comes to mind is guts.
Cotto deserves a megafight, Pac is obviously the biggest fight out there for anyone but I think a rematch between Cotto and Mosley has the potential to be huge.
Scenario- Cotto decisions Mosley in the first fight, then you have the questionable loss to Marg, Then Shane embodies a wrecking ball and levels Marg, Cotto on the comeback trail seeking vindication eyes one man @147 "The Sugar man"
Let the battle for the high throne @Welterweight begin.

      BTW, **** Tony!!!
true that, you have to understand also that Clottey was the one that hit the floor, not Cotto.....

He fought a elite fighter with one eye, and could have easily had it stopped and retained his title, but dude fought for like 10 or 11 rounds with one eye, exact same thing as roy, but what did roy do, he folded, couldn't pull the trigger, etc.. i'm not a huge cotto fan, i'm a huge fan of boxing, and respect is due and given to the PR Warrior!!! i do not think Pac will have the heart to take cotto out. Cotto can neautralize speed, and if he gets someone like manny in there to help fine tune him, that might spell disaster for any of his potential matchups. (pac / roach - very deadly combo) Roach knows pac's strengths , weaknesses, etc.. it will definately take a good strategist to come up with something to disrupt their chemistry. That is all that cotto is lacking, i think the rift between him and his trainer has hampered his training and fighting spirit for the last couple of fights - where as before cotto would convincingly beat opponents, now we are hearing gift decisions, split decisions, controversial decisions - i think with manny we will be hearing more unanimous decisions,TKO, KO ....
        Right on man,great post

he already beat mosley, will beat pac but not mayweather because may don't have the balls to get in the ring with him

I have seen gatti with two cuts a broken hand still trying for ko cotto goes to4 corner d if floyd did this. He would get clowned

Cottos's stamina is not the best and when the opponents don't fall with his power he loses some concentration. He does boxes his opponents and shows his diversity, he is not running and his power makes the opponent second guess to go in. He needs a trainer that he respects so he can listen to intructions and follow thru a game plan. At this level is hard for a fighter just trying to adjust himself without an experienced corner assesing in what is going on in the ring and what has to be done. Cotto has the tools but needs better people to guide him thru. Can't do that having a few yes men in the corner

He could go and live in Mexico City for a few months and see how they train down there. It would never happen though but it would be something interesting to think about.
I agree - Nacho is a professional and I would LOVE for Cotto to train up in them mountains! It would do wonders for his stamina - who better to have train you then JMM's master mind (who knows how to beat Pac). Nacho would be much better than Steward...

cotto is a great fighter imo hes got all the moves all the punches and i like um cause he will anybody you name except paul williams. but he lost that last fight. clottey is a better fighter to me though or at least that night he was. boxing is great sport but the kids dont watch it cause its too currupt. floyd mayweather is a better athlete then kobe bryant but he'll never be as popular then kobe cause his sport is so thrash behind the scenes. boxing is so unfair its sad. paid judges fixed fights brain damage fighters retire broke its terrible man. you would rather your son play basketball or football at least he gets a fair shot.

I believe Cotto is a real warrior, never complaint, even with circumstances against him. In the other way you see Clottey crying like a baby and acting up, looking for the referee to disqualify Cotto. That’s the big difference between a man with the balls in place and a crying baby.

I forgot to mention that Cotto should never take Emmanuel Stewart as his trainer, I do not see anything extraordinary in him, before Stewart, I will select Mayweather father which I see him training and giving correct instructions during the fight. I believe like other people mentioned before Cotto should be training in the mountains, the only thing is that Puerto Rico has a lot of high altitude area and also a lot of good trainer, not taking away anything from the Mexican trainer, which I believe are very good too. But one thing, Santiago showed in this fight that he is to green to be training alone.
