But at a higher level.
Arturo Gatti couldn't hang with guys like Carlos Quintana, Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, or Josh Clottey.
Gatti was destroyed by Alfonso Gomez (old or not)
Cotto toyed with Alfonso Gomez
Cotto is a much better fighter than Arturo Gatti. But he does have a similar warrior mentality.Comment

the beat downs will continue....he is the gatekeeper to the top welterweights at this point. He beat Clottey dont get me wrong but his heart alone did that.Comment

first fight ive watched in a looooooonnnnngggg time. and im glad i did. saw the whole thing.the headbutt, the GASH, the hurt leg, the last bit of it.
and i have to say, i knew he was gonna win from round one. and dont laugh at me when i say this, or maybe you will laugh and i just wont care, but...
nobody ever looks at the feet. he stood there like a tree. a fighting tree. he was more solid, harder to knock down. now, i may not know all the little nuances of fighting, but i remember what my dad used to say in the barber shop when we'd watch the fights.
"look at his stance. if he dances, hell go down."
i dunno if its right or wrong, but it was the first thing i noticed. his stance.
and he WANTED to fight. not just win, but FIGHT. thats what he was there for. he was there til the end or he got knocked out.
winner.Comment

Cottos's stamina is not the best and when the opponents don't fall with his power he loses some concentration. He does boxes his opponents and shows his diversity, he is not running and his power makes the opponent second guess to go in. He needs a trainer that he respects so he can listen to intructions and follow thru a game plan. At this level is hard for a fighter just trying to adjust himself without an experienced corner assesing in what is going on in the ring and what has to be done. Cotto has the tools but needs better people to guide him thru. Can't do that having a few yes men in the cornerComment
