Sylvia aint crap on the ground. Hes a standup fighter who knocked around Noguiera for 2.5 rounds before getting submitted. That fight was less than 2 years ago.

Sylvia is not near the black belt level, he is good at defending himself, and that's it.

Arguably the best boxer to try MMA was only a decent one at best and hes 5-0. Others with boxing backgrounds who have tried MMA include Lytle, Davis, Hicks, Noons and all of them have done well.

Kickboxers like Crocop, Hunt, Overeem, Manhoef have also transitioned with some or even great success.

All those boxers did good job right after they took wrestling and BJJ training, before that they would loose to average fighters.

Any other elite fighter he fought against, he lost... Got owned and outboxed by 50 lbs lighter, and 43 years old Couture, got submitted by Nogueira (who is really shot fighter these days), got submitted by Mir, got destroyed by Fedor. Sylvia beat two relevant fighters in his career, one of them has no chin, and other one is drug and alcohol abuser. And yeah, he beat 30 cm's smaller Monson, and LHW Vera where he just clinched with the guy.

Sylvia is not TOP 10 hw fighter these days, and is not TOP 200 in boxing.

Mercer went the distance with Musashi for christs sake. And all those guys you mentioned competed in god damn Japan for criminal organizations. That didnt stop Botha from pumping out a couple wins against K-1 legends despite being WAYYY OUT OF HIS PRIME.

You're right but that's an unfair comparison because there's no neutral ground with it. Boxing is 1 aspect of MMA with a talentpool of fighters that specialize in other aspects beside boxing. That'd be like asking Roy jones to compete with anderson silva in a jiujitsu match where Roy wouldnt know the 1st thing about it. Absolutely no chance in hell.

Roy has a bigger chance of beating Silva in an MMA match then Silva has of beating him in a boxing match. Even at 40 years old.

Yes I agree with that. But the entire comparison that is the premise behind this whole thread is what I disagree with. Just because a boxer KOs an MMA fighter does not in any way equate to Boxing > MMA.

MMA is a sport which integrates several different fighting arts...which include boxing so it's all a matter of style matchups and strategy. Obviously boxers will have the best chance of winning if they stand and trade. Just as wrestlers will have the best chance at winning if they take their opponent down.

You're ****in ****** for making that comparison. You do realize there's no such thing as an MMA'er right? MMA is basically a melting pot of athletes from different contact sports that specialized and competed at a world class level at something that is NOT mma.
