    Cotto won

Cotto won this fight. He showed heart by fighting with that nasty cut. Their corner could have chosen to stop the fihgt bas on that cut and go to the scorecards but he chose to fight. Clottey did not do enough to win. Cotto took his best punches. Now this writer talks about damage goods Is he High?
Cotto has been fighting the best for the past few years, Mosely, Margacheeto, Clottey, Juda, Quintana, Top Contenders. This kid Never ducks anyone. Unlike Margacheeto whoe never gave Paul Williams a rematch, or gayweather who only picks fighters that can beat. You cant call this fight a gift I had cotto winning by one round at least. Argument for A draw maybe. But Cotto had the edge. the knockdown, Won most of the early round and the Last two and he is the champion.

Gift. Get two people who dont like either fighter to score it with the sound off. Neither will give it to Cotto. Go head, try it and get back to me. Cotto hit gloves all night and the stats showed it. Clottey landed FAR more punches and the more flashy ones.

Peering through blood and with a hideous gash that ripped open his right eyebrow in the third round, courtesy of an unintentional clash of heads, Cotto obtained the split-decision win on the cards of two of the three official judges.

Judge John McKaie saw it 115-112 for the defending champion, Don Trella was way off base at 116-111 also for Cotto, whereas Tom Miller had it 114-113 for Clottey. This writer scored it 115-113 for Clottey.

CompuBox saw Clottey landing more punches (222-179) and he had the edge in power punches (168-124). Cotto landed one more jab (55-54).

There was a lot of talk over the weekend about this fight. No matter where you went or who you asked, everybody had an opinion about who was going to win and who was going to lose. With the annual Boxing Writers Association of America dinner held here on Friday and the big fight on Saturday there was no shortage of boxing types kicking around town. [details]

        A gift??Bull****s.
        Could have gone either.

Without all these blood in the eye,Cotto beats Clottey fair and square,Cotto showed heart and balls. But he isn't the same,he needs few more fights to come back.He get really destroyed phisically and mentally by the loaded fraud from mexico.

          You got down syndrome?

I said a tie would have been better than a Cotto win where a jude gave him the fight with a 116-111 score you ****ing moron. It was a close fight but i think Clottey clearly won, that judge is on Cotto's payroll or a crack addict.

But it's ok, heres some green k for you. I wouldn't be able to be to be objective either if i had Cotto's balls all over my face like you do.

Cotto's ability to weather the adversity and keep fighting won him the fight. He was digging deep and kept fighting despite some serious damage to his eye caused by a clash of heads.

In fact, the damage was so bad that Manny Pacquiao became genuinely worried for Cotto and hoped that the ringside doctor would stop the fight. It was after the seventh round that Pacquiao hoped the fight would be stopped. But Cotto ****** it up and chose to fight on showing tremendous pride, guts and ambition. Give Cotto his props. He could've said he couldn't see and won an easy decision.

We mustn't forget that the one-eyed Cotto couldn't see for most of the fight. And despite some expected reports of a 'gift decision', Cotto was able to emerge the close winner in what was a close fight. ESPN scored it 116-111 for Miguel Cotto. Fighthype.com scored 115-112 for Cotto. The Associated Press scored it 116-111 for Cotto. Ultimately, it was the championship rounds which made the difference where Cotto outboxed Clottey.

And make no mistake, Clottey is an elite, tough welter-weight. Put Clottey in there with the other welters and Clottey will come out well.

Give Cotto his props. This guy is an exciting fighter who is willing to fight the best guys out there. Come on Mr. Arum, bring on Manny Pacquiao and let Cotto's journey on the road to greatness continue!

Notes: jab of the decade. Piston-like jab put Clottey down. And it must be said, Joshua Clottey is a great actor. He even beats Hopkins for the 'exaggerations from an exaggerator' award.

i think the problem here is that when clottey won a round he was very dominating, whereas cotto was scrapping some of the rounds. Even though they were close rounds he won them, and he deserved the last 2, so its a fair call. And to be honest im of the thinking if your the challenger you have to rip that title from the champ, last night clottey had that chance with 2 rounds to go and didn't take it, simple.

The writer scored an even round in the 10th and gave the 11th round to Clottey. If he had scored the 10th to Cotto and given the 11th to Cotto as well as I did it would be 114-113 Cotto. A poster very accuratley described that Clottey was very dominate in the rounds that he did win whereas Cotto really had to dig deep and sc**** the rounds to win. I don't understand all the hate that goes to Cotto however because if he had wanted to he could have retired early after the cut and been awarded a TD win. And can people please understand that Clottey was as dominate as he was landing punches due to the cut suffered by the accidental headbutt. Cotto wasn't given a 'gift' by the officials since it was a fight that he could have won by a narrow margin, but was given a gift from Clottey who slowed down the assault late in the match and allowed the fight to become competitive.

                    • I agree this was tight, and giving it to Clottey doesn't bother me one bit. But come on Stewart, 3,4, and 5 to Clottey? That's a joke. Cotto dominated the 4th round. If you can't give the 4th round to Cotto, you were never going to score him the winner for this fight. Clottey did nothing but get pounded against the ropes all round. Stop acting like the guy is Ali. He's not rope a doping anybody.

Clottey is a good fighter and I would've had no problem with him winning this fight, but come on now. This article makes it out to be a robbery, which it wasn't. Clottey robbed himself by, IMO, coasting and losing the last round.
