      • Here's my take on the fight. I think Cotto's 1st round kd was legit, Clottey was NOT off balance, nor does he have a weak chin, he just got hit at the right time in the right place. Even though i truly believe the headbutt was an accident, Clottey is known for headbutting and complaining.

When Clotty was clinching, Cotto tried to just shake him off, but Clottey was off balance and fell. Then he complained about it, playing up a bull**** knee injury. In spite of Cotto have such a huge cut pouring blood constantly round after round (he kept pawing at it trying to stop the bleeding himself) had had Clottey against the ropes pummeling him a few times. The punch at the back of the head i agree with another poster here, was one of those "heat of the moment" things". also most body punchers are guilty of accidentle low blows, but i saw that he hit Clottey right on the beltline.

Not all boxers stand in one place and throw punches...that's a lame thing to say of boxers to say they run, not all run away, some are good at counter-punching going backward. It works really well for some like Floyd, and some other really good BOXERS. Not everybody is a Mike Tyson. Good Boxers move around, trying sometimes to "reset" their mindset. But some coast through the later rounds by running if they feel like they scored enough points to just stay away from their opponent, not willing to take a chance.

The score card that was 116-112 was wrong, i had Cotto winning by 113/112. and taking into consideration he could only see out of one eye, and how aggrivating and distracting, not to mention discouraging a cut like that must be, i up my scorecard to 114-112 for doing so well in the last 2 rounds.

I felt Clottey could have done more in the last 2 rounds but dropped the ball. I didn't expect such a good fight from Clottey. I have some respect for his boxing ability, but he's a whiner. I thought Cotto would tko him by the 7-8 round. But Clottey was too good a boxer and has a good defence. All in all, it was a dam good fight, i respect both fighters, but Cotto more so. He is a truly humble man that doesn't shoot his mouth off, and is respectful of his fellow boxers.
Cotto did a dam good job in spite of that gaping wound blinding one eye. I'd like to see how it would have turned out w/o that cut??

        • i dont think cotto has recovered from the plaster beating he took from margarito.

He's not looking crispy like he usually do.

          This aint the same cotto.

          • I've got a question to all the new Clottey 'fans' (Cotto haters) leading up to the fight. All of you stated that Clottey was gonna be the bigger man in the fight and that he would be able to do what Margarito did and he didn't. A lot of you predicted that Clottey would KO Cotto, and he did not. But he did get put on his ass. A lot of you gave Clottey some mythical power out of nowhere and said he'd be able to make Cotto quit which he did not. After all was said and done Clottey could not capitalize on a handicap and as it turned out Cotto could 'tek' all Clottey's punches. If anyone thinks that the fight would have been as close as it was without the cut they are gravely mistaken. Without that handicap Cotto would have been able to win a more decisive noncontroversial decision. Props to Cotto for enduring the fight and cong**** to Clottey for looking very good against an essentially one eyed opponent.

            • this article is bull****, no gift was given I had Cotto winning the fight by a round. The only problem with the score cards was the one judge who had it far too in favor of Cotto but no tragedy was witnessed other than the head butt ruined a good fight being an absolute great fight.

              • TK Stewart and the rest of Bunches of Cotto haters, I was at the Garden yesterday. Sometimes you can hit more the other boxer, and still you will loose the fight. For example, about 4-5 rounds were won by Clottey and those rounds thats where Clottey connected more punches than Cotto, the rest of the fight was dominated by Cotto. If you read expert around the world, they thing the same way than me.
Many of the remaining rounds were close and when it was over, judge Don Trella (116-111) and John McKaie (115-112) had it for Cotto while Tom Miller had it for Clottey (114-113). ESPN.com had it 116-111 for Cotto. AP 116-112 Cotto, Dan Rafael 116-112 Cotto. Not looking for excuses for Cotto, but that cut in his eyebrow, pouring blood all night in his left eye made him not concentrated properly in the fight plus that do not allow you to see well. Go in the ring one time in your life and you will know what I am talking about. Only a mind with the hate toward Cotto saw Clottey winning, all night Clottey was winning, instead of fighting as a warrior. When he was down when a wrestler situation occurred he was acting like he was on lot of pain, needed to be helped by the referee, then was limping, after the show, because Cotto was not disqualified then he started boxing like nothing happened before.
Cotto won, no question about it, I am happy for that and Cotto haters burn your stoach with gastric acid.

                • cotto looked awful,,this fight also makes me belive margarito didn't have anything in his gloves the night they fought ..why?.because with tony he got tired after the 6th round, people say thats when plaster started taking effect, but he also looked very tired in this fight after the 6th round, mouth open, hands down,he also looked tired against mosley and a bit against judah,,,i believe thats just him,he gets tired, now i think margarito beat him fair and square,if that was tony last night he would have been all over him,he's not like clottey who throws 30,40 punches in a round, tony throws 100 punches, cotto looked just as bad and tired as with tony,,,we all knew if it was close no way clottey gets decision,i really don't think cotto is that good,he looks awful against better comp and good against weak competition

                  • Weather Margarritos' gloves were or weren't loaded? He did give everyone the blueprint on how to beat Cotto.Clottey followed that plan and almost pulled it off.If it werent' for the fight happening in New York on the eve of the rican day parade Clottey wins. One has to question Clotteys' management as to why they would take the fight on that date?I mean come on....How long does it take to Talley up the scorecards?Long enough to doctor up a new one that said Cotto won!Arum has really got some nerve to suggest that there will be no rematch but instead a fight with Pacman in the fall.It makes sense(financially),but it proves Cotto didn't win the fight fair an square.Any elite fighter who takes a fight date with Cotto on this night from now on should take notice and call for a neutral site.Or better yet call for anywhere but the east coast. You gotta face the fighter, the fans, the promoter, and even the judges!!Talk about the odds stacked against you.Score the knock out and all of that don't matter,I guess that's why I love boxing. It's still bull**** though.

Harsh is exactly what I was thinking.

Ill agree that Clottley has case that he won, but he seriously let it slip away by not doing anything at the end of the fight. Cotto fought the whole fight with a MAJOR handicap and anyone who ever talks **** about his heart again should get smacked up.
