I really dont understand the animosity here between boxers and MMA. If anything MMA really helped the reputation of boxing. I'm old enough to remember the pre-UFC days when it was Kung Fu this and Karate that. The general public lived in a fantasy world created by low budget martial arts movies. The UFC proved what works and it proved that the cornerstone of striking was boxing, not the acrobatic kicking you see in the movies. Everyone learned rather quickly that in real life that **** gets your ass planted on the mat.

It's limited yes, but that allows people to perfect the craft. MMA is like a sloppy omellete. You throw all the ingrediants togethor & the product aint too pretty. MMA is way too new and the fighters arent very well rounded. They can do it all but not at a world class level. How many gold medalists are in mma?

It helped the reputation of the art. No one goes around anymore thinking that Kung Fu is the ultimate form of striking. Maybe you simply are not old enough to remember the fantasy world that the general public lived in with regards to real fighting pre UFC. People know what real fighting is today thanks to MMA. As I said the UFC proved that boxing is the cornerstone of effective striking. Not Kung Fu, not Karate, not Taekwondo. Today when someone wants to improve their stand up fighting they go train boxing more often than not.

I remember the frustration of the 80s when everyone thought that a Shaolin monk was invincible. Trying to explain to them that TV hard warped their mind and that that Kung Fu as a fighting style is more art than fighting and that a wrestler or a boxer would destroy them fell on deaf ignorant ears.

Boxing is chess MMA is checkers. In checkers you Have a bigger arsenal and is a quicker game. In chess it's more limited movement it requires more strategy and planning out.

Except all the people who learn how to box so they can be effective strikers. It helps bring money into the sport and helps to keep gyms up and running. There would be far fewer boxing gyms in the world today where it not for MMA.

"If it makes money it makes sense" and MMA does make money for boxing.

Put it this way...Tom Brady has played QB since grade school through college like most Boxers age 8-22 perfecting on 1 discpline. So if Ray Lewis played LB thorugh the same time but at age 28 decided to take 5 months of QB lessons he the better all around Football player? GIVE ME A BREAK Lewis is a great LB like Brady is a great QB neither 1 could play each others position at a high-level. Some MMA fans are DUMB!
