So what's the alternative, give Pacquiao the disadvantage?

Ch@mpBox, you're a good guy but you don't make any sense with this stuff.

Cotto will not fight below 147 mark my words!! he isnt ****** and Manny is using his weight as an excuse!! MP fought DLH at 147!! Now fight the rest of the WW at 147!! PAC fans, Manny is going to get KO'd at 147 with the legit WW's!!
Manny weighed in at 142 for his only Welterweight fight. On fight night he was only slightly above the Welterweight limit. How was he to know that Oscar wouldn't come in at least 154-160? Oscar had a chance and he blew it. Don't blame Manny for Oscar's lack of professionalism, he tried to prove he could come in lighter than Pacquiao and ****ed himself up because of it.

Now Manny gets blamed for beating up a corpse? Ridiculous. Roach and Manny took a huge gamble but it paid off big time.

Cotto will fight below 147. He already said he'd fight at 145 ages ago. It wasn't agreed on with Team Pacquiao, it was just Miguel mentioning it in an interview, but it blows your theory out that he won't go below Welterweight.

Whichever way you look at it, Manny is not a legit Welterweight, he's a small guy. It just so happens that everyone wants to fight him and he holds all the aces. Don't agree to his terms? Then go look elsewhere for a fight.

I agree with you that Cotto-Pacqiuo will not be made. If Pacquio beats Cotto, where does that leave Cotto as an elite fighter. If Cotto beats Pac, there goes the Pac-Mayweather or Pac-Mosley fight and he's back to fighting at 135 lbs. It's an easy payday for Arum but not good for the long run. He's gotta be thinking Mayweather-Pacman as the real fall fight, which would make tons of money and is pretty much a no-lose situation for Pacqiuo.

He knows Cotto's marketability is mediocre at best. He could not bring seven thousand fans to MSG on the same night that Pavlik filled up a "generic" arena in Ohio. Juanma brought ten thousand fans together in PR, something Cotto cannot do.
The fight that makes sense is Mayweather-Pacquiao and Arum knows this. He is using Cotto's name as a negotiating tool but in the end it will not work. Mayweather is too stubborn and if Arum is lucky he might get a 55-45 split on the fight.
Cotto is not marketable??? You must be crazy if you think Cotto can't fill ten thousand seats here in Puerto Rico. Cotto is still more popular than Juanma...just not loved as much.

I've lost any faith in boxing at this level... of course cotto will fight pacquiao or anyother fighter that guarantee him a good $M pay day. At the end, they are all after the money and I can't really blame them...

And for prizefiteguru... who was the one that had pack the MSG on record breaking tickets sales 3 times?

cotto vs malignaggi, cotto vs judah, cotto vs. mosley

....how about the health of midget manny???
shane/miguel climbs the ring at 160, manny at 148 at most!!
now whose health is more precarious??! considering manny started at 106 (in case you have forgotten).cotto cannot possibly make below 147?? even 3 less lbs at 144??
i'm sure arum ($$$ and promise of the future) will make him go down even to 143!

In case you have forgotten, Manny was 106 at 16 yrs old! Cotto was 106 at 16 yrs. old! Actually Cotto lost an amateur fight against Ivan Calderon. Quit making excuses for Manny, he fought Oscar at 147 and destroyed him. Why can't he fight Cotto or Mosley at 147? I think that the fight should be done at 147 for the belt. Also, the: catchweights are there to give a disadvantaged fighter a level playing field, is bull**** because in Pavlik-Hopkins it was there to give Hopkins the advantage at 170. I guess when fighters are considered P4P#1 they turn into bitches and don't want to take risks like Floyd did. Paquiao is one of my faves but not fighting at 147 would be a ***** move.

Where have you been for the past few years? Cotto sells out wherever he fights! If there was a competition about people that talk without any knowledge on the subject:

Cotto vs. Pacquiao is not the fight I want to see. It's a little bit early for Pacquiao. Cotto has to settle to score with Mosley if win against Clottey. But we know Clottey is no pushover. He's dangerous and can give Cotto some problems. Cotto do have a not that much reliable chin. He's been rocked a few times in some fights.

If Cotto wins and Arum pushes still the fight with Pacquiao the fight must happen @ 147. Pacquiao has already said that he can fight up to 147. I don't want the fight to happen with a catch weight. It will only stain Pacquiao's legacy especially if he will win. People will have again excuses because they will say he won because of the catch weight and Cotto looks dehydrated. That will not look good on Pacquiao.

Floyd vs. Manny is the more interesting fight than Cotto vs. Manny if Floyd will win against Juan that is. Speed vs. speed. Ring intellect vs. power. Tenacity vs. willpower. This will settle who's the true P4P.
