My thing is this...we cant blame Floyd for JMM's wars...JMM is still fighting and has actually gotten better as hes aged....p4p number 2 after 55 fights.
no one is blaming Floyd for anything.
people on here are discussing factors that play into the fight.
some here are saying that being active helps JMM and I merely countered that considering he fought in two wars (one a FOTY2008 honorable mention) and the other the leading fight for FOTY2009 will play a factor into this.
add to that he is what 35 or 36? while yes he is always in great shape his age will definitely play a factor into this
Pac has been in wars too....this is boxing.....
lol ok man I think I know this is boxing. However considering that Manny is at least 5 years younger than JMM and started his career two full years after JMM I would say he has less wear on him than does JMM
JMM does not look anything close to shot at all.
who said shot?
JMM is moving up to an unknown weight towards the end of his storied career. He is now age 35.
His skills are indeed on the wane if you actually looked at his career as a whole (I have followed him since about 95/96 when he was part of Forum Boxing) but nowhere did I say he was shot
he just has a lot of aspects going against him. More than Floyd thats for sure
the only two things going against him are
1. coming down 3lbs from his last fight. This shouldn't be an issue considering most here didn't consider him a legit welterweight anyways merely that he moved up for the challenge but he belongs lower than 147
2. he has been away from the ring. True and this should come into play but again its like he was Tito who stayed away from the sport as a whole, then decided to get back into the ring when he realized he wanted to fight again. Floyd has been in a boxing gym since retiring. He really never left the gym at all if you hear some people tell it
The fact still remains... being inactive just shy of two years can and will effect your timing when it comes down to fight speed...
Marquez has been in two rough fights, hes also stopped both of those opponents... hardly what i would call "no momentum"
agreed you won't get much of an arguement from me about it. I just think its being played up a lot more than needed because if he was a fighter who said bye bye, did no training, then decided he would come back then yes it would play a much bigger factor. Nope Mayweather did stay in the gym continually
but he took a ****load of punishment in doing so correct? again all I asked was don't you think this plays?

Oh well, I definitely think Floyd has the edge, no iffs ands or buts about it... I only said that to say Marquez is definitely an OPPONENT, and definitely brings a threat to the table... its a good win..

The catchweights of 2-3 pounds are so irrelevant it is silly to even bring them up. I'm reminded of simpler times when there weren't so many damn divisions.
The point is, this will be an impressive win for either men. They are both equal (or nearly equal) in size. They both have advantages. Granted JMM has never fought in this territory, but with proper nutrioning, conditioning and strength training (which has assumably already commenced) I see no reason why he can't be in pristine condition. Floyd is always in good condition and as a boxer/wrestler...you never really lose that innate ability to just let your body flow. Its natural. Of course as you get older the body doesn't respond as fast as it does. Also the type of encounters you have had has a negative impact.
Either way, being on the pound for pound list means that you should be able to compete with any one in or around your weight classes. JMM being that high up for me says that people in his general weight class, he should have no problem being able to battle with. So Floyd at 147 is fine.
If JMM wins...I think we can start carving out his bust for the HoF and he should probably retire instead of fighting Manny. If Floyd wins, it'll be a step forward to being a true HoF fighter (which I think he stops short of).

I dont believe that..if he really never left the gym he wouldnt need a tune up...hed be ready for Cotto....Mosley...and Pac right now...but he obviously isnt.
Ive seen interviews in these past two years and boxing has not been number 1 on his brain....Floyd will alwyas be in good shape have you seen his 56 year old father...he makes Haye look bad.
