Mayweather vs. Marquez Negotiations Stalled on Weight

DLH had to compromise on weight when he fought Pac - and he had to compromise on the purse too.Comment

It was still disputed whether he was really the man, until he beat Juan Diaz and Campbell moved up. He was the lineal champ when he beat Casmayor, but until the lineal champ defends against the best fighters in his division, he isn't really the man. Marquez is the man now.Last edited by Dave Rado; 04-14-2009, 02:41 AM.Comment

Pac owns JMM. Pac beat JMM the 1st time without a judges error. True. Pac moved on and beat the greats Morales, Barrera, De La Hoya. Pac is #1 P4P. Pac has had 2 mega PPV fights in his last 2 fights. Pac is an Icon in his country.
JMM loses to John. Beats a old Cassamayor, a young bull that got manhandled by Nate Campbell. Not even the top 3 boxer in Mexico according to the fans and $. JMM is chasing Pac for a chance at a 3rd fight.
Again Pac owns JMM.Comment

The best fighter Pac has ever fought is JMM, as Pac himself admits.Comment

Do you just make this sh** up? So I guess Floyd wasnt the "MAN" at 147 according to you since he never fought the top contenders? I guess Pavlik isnt the man at 160 because he hasnt fought the top contenders? I guess Hatton isnt the man because he havent fought the top in his division? See how moronic that sounds!!!
It is precisely because Mayweather has never defended his Welterweight title against a top contender that most neutrals don't consider him to have proved himself at Welterweight.
Pavlik needs to beat Abraham before most neutrals will consider him to be proven as the man at Middleweight.
It's the difference between being a temporary title holder like Boldomir was, and a dominant champion. Boldomir was only "the man" in the strict sense that he was the man who had to be beaten in order to claim the lineal title. But he was never the world's best Welterweight. To prove you're the best you have to beat the best.
And patronising people just makes you look silly.Last edited by Dave Rado; 04-14-2009, 01:55 PM.Comment

Hatton has twice defended against The Ring's #1 contender in his division. And all his defences were against opponents who were in The Ring's top 10 at the weight.

Here we go, NOW your assessments are based on neutrals? Just last week you based it on "experts would agree with you".. You can have it both ways Dave. So since experts had FM the man at 147 but neutrals dont he's not the man? Experts have Pavlik as the man @ 160 but its wrong because neutrals dont? The only time I could see your reasoning in this matter is when Campbell beat the man in Diaz but Casamayor was still consider the man @ 135.
Pavlik looks like facing Abraham later this year, but if he were to duck out of that fight, there would be serious question marks in most experts' minds about whether he really is "the man" - and although he will be favourite to win that fight, he won't be a strong favourite.
And what about Michael Spinks when he spent 18 months ducking Tyson but was still the lineal heavyweight champion during that period. Would you say that Spinks was generally accepted as "the man" at that time?Last edited by Dave Rado; 04-14-2009, 02:46 PM.Comment
