OK. I would like for somebody knowledgeable to explain to me (like I'm a third grader) what the extra advantage is that Floyd gets if the fight is at 147 as opposed to 140.

We all agree that Floyd will be 148 pounds on fight night either way. Agreed? Please explain how FMJ would increase his advantage if the fight is at 147.

    Thanks...and no flaming.
It just all comes down to be being fair I think. Marquez should go up one weight class, and Mayweather should come down one. That's the way many other superfights have been made in the past. Mayweather would be asked to work a little harder to come down, where Marquez would have to properly train to be a strong 140-pounder...not just eat more or train less to put on the weight.

Remember, Marquez has only had 2 fights at 135, and even though he called out Floyd, he also made it clear from the get-go that he wouldn't go up more than one more weight class to fight him.

come on boxing fans Why such a big deal !!! who really wants to see PBF vs JJM it just like watching a Paul William vs Winky Wright all over again JJM is not in his prime got rocked many times by Juan Diaz as we know he isnt even a power puncher 40% knock out ratio .PBF will be hungry due to him not bening active and many doubting his legacy which currently i agree with (looking at boxing record 30 of his 39 fights were against poor competition or had losing records) if he is looking to fight at 147 then fight real competition shane mosley, andre berto, kermit contron, miguel cotto, joshua clottey then i will say PBF has clout even IF he fights JJM it should be at 130 limit and no higher , 30 of PBF fights have been 130lbs-134lbs weight limit he shouldnt have any problem fighting at 130lbs BUT if he does decide to fight JJM , PACMAN then i clearly believe he would be beating up on little guys giving he has 65% knockout ratio.

according to Marv Dumon FROM houstonboxing examiner" At 147 lbs., I would have to consider Mayweather (at least) a very strong 4-1 favorite over Marquez, who has never fought above the 135 lb. lightweight limit. Marquez may be a higher volume puncher than the lower quantity, but more effective, puncher Mayweather, however, the shots that do land on a bloated Marquez would probably have a much more significant effect.
At 140 lbs., however, Mayweather vs. Marquez would indeed be a bona fide mega-fight. At this weight, we would have to consider Marquez as having a "solid chance" at defeating Mayweather, who would have to drain his body below an otherwise more normal weight of 147 - 154 lbs. Secondly, if the fight takes place in September, Floyd will have been away from boxing for close to two years. Floyd's ring rust would translate to an advantage for the presumably sharper Marquez."

I agree, PBF-JMM is NOT what I want to see. There's much-better matchups for Marquez than Mayweather. But if it's gonna be done, then it should be made at 140.

Another thing, for Marquez not being in his prime, he still KOd a 10-years younger former undisputed lightweight champion (even though he got rocked himself), and gave the current P4P kingpin (in his prime) arguably the two toughest bouts of his career.

I find it funny how a lot of Floyd's supporters makes the issue of Floyd being a natural 135-140 fighter, but wants the JMM at no less than 147 where Marquez has NEVER fought.

LOL I still wanna see the fight, but I'm sayin...

Who the hell said that? Floyd walks around 150 or so pounds. Floyd prolly hasn't been 140 or so in years. If the fight happens I think it'll have to be a catchweight like 142 or 143...

Ahhh man just stayed tuned LOL, you'll see them pop up.

I've been one that's saying he's a 147lb fighter and has been for years. He's not fighting JMM at any catch weight. If JMM doesn't agree to 147, he'll hold out for Pac vs Hatton winner.

Yea I don't really see Floyd going down in weight. He walks around at probably 150 or so. So he'd end up dropping 7-10 pounds if he fights him. I don't know if Floyd will be open to that...

Nah at this point it's just ****** to do. The point is to be at your very best physically and mentally to get the best fight out of you. What sense would it make to give the opponent the advantage just to make the fight happen. For that, just don't fight at all. JMM isn't by any means a last resort for Floyd.
