You obviously haven't been reading the Mayweather threads. 90% of his fans claim he's a natural 140 pounder, and that he's fighting above his natural weight when he fights at 147.

    • Fact is, Marquez is ranked higher than Floyd in the pound for pound ratings right now. He's probably #2. That's a fact.

Floyd is a fighter than retired and now wants to lure a small man up to a division where he himself doesn't need to be, unless he's there to challenge a true welterweight.

If any other fighter made a demand like this, it'd be laughed at.

If Paul Williams was called out by Pacquiao, pound for pound best, and then Paul said, 'Well, you called my ass out, let's fight at 160.' We'd laugh. It'd be ludacris for the higher ranked pound for pound fighter, the one winning the tough fights, to be called up two divisions to fight a man who should be able to make a lower weight.

Because this is Floyd, though, we're going to let him pull Marquez up to 147. Surprisingly his fans are the ones that are alright with this, yet they are the ones who will get to hear the throngs of haters talking about how small Marquez looked, and how he wasn't able to fight at 147- and if Floyd wins his victory will be completely illegitimate because of this.

It's simple. If Floyd moves down to at least a catch weight we can assume the fight will be competitive because Marquez will be more comfortable at the weight. There will be far fewer excuses thrown around to tarnish the luster of Mayweather making a comeback and beating the #2 pound for pound fighter, and dropping in weight to do it. Further, it'll almost set up a Pacquiao clash at jr. welterweight.

I just don't see why Marquez-Mayweather, a fight with two men who can never truly call themselves welterweight fighters, would be at 147.

Exactly. If Floyd isn't interested, then he should never have got into negotiations and the fight shouldn't happen.

          EXACTLY!!!!!!!

no way in hell marquez figures floyd to come out of retirement for 2 years, PLUS make a weight he hasn't fought at for 4 years!

its posturing exactly, but the haters can't understand that.

like PW said, its one thing to get on t.v. or the internet and call somebody out, its another thing to sign the contract....

Floyd's a small welterweight but its still his NATURAL weight.

And I'll be damned if I read some of the threads on here about Floyd. Some are tons of pages...I guess I'm in the 10 percent who knows Floyd doesn't walk around 140 or so.

No he fought Hatton after that, at 147.

not exactly. i hear mostly that floyd is a "smaller" than usual WW, which is true.....never heard anyone say he's a "natural 140 lber."

bottom line is, floyd's last 2 fights were at 154, then 147, then was gonna fight at 154 again, but he retired......he's been off for two years, and hasn't fought south of 147 since 2005.

marquez "called" floyd out, but then says, "only at a weight you haven't been at since 2005.."

like you say, fighters "give and take" when it comes to making fights.....

floyd's give, is that he's coming back off of a 2-year layoff. now he should ALSO be expected to make a wieght he hasn't fought at in 4 years???

what is marquez giving up? he's planning to move up in weight anyway!
True, but he's only planning on moving up to 140. It goes both ways too though, Floyd is also asking Marquez to fight in a weight class he's never fought at either (two higher than where he's currently at.) I know others have done it before (Pacquiao), but even with the layoff you gotta view Mayweather as a bigger threat than the current version of Oscar de la Hoya. I just think it makes better sense to do it at 140.

Didn't Floyd only have one fight at 154 too? I only remember the Oscar fighting being at JMW.

                      that's a scary thought.....only 10%?

if a fighter fights at 147-154, no way in hell they walk around at 140.....
