There is one big difference here, pac took the money fights like floyd against hatton and de la hoya. But pac also has the tough legacy fights on his cv (morales, barerra, marquez) multiple times in their primes mostly. Floyd has NOTHING like that. The best he has is maybe chico and castillo. Not bad wins but nothing wow either. There are plenty of guys out there with better wins than castillo and the other guys floyd has fought, i mean plenty. That why floyd has to prove it, i doubt he will. He will just take the winner of pac/hatton and retire again.

One other thing, pac is fighting hatton at his natural weight class, 140. Floyd forced hatton to move up to 147 to fight him. Its a small point but significant. Pac should be 1 until its PROVEN otherwise. :3some:

A fight between both of them won't prove who is the best P4P fighter. This goes especially if Mayweather wins. Manny has fought in many different weight classes against many top opponets. If many loses by fighting someone bigger than him it doesn't prove he's not the best P4P fighter. Its like saying that if Mayweather fights a bigger Paul Williams and loses he's not the best P4P fighter.
If Manny were bigger it would be a little different story, but he's moving up in weight alot. He's only fought once in 135lbs and once in 147lbs and this coming from a fighter that started his career in 107lbs compare to Mayweather 130lbs.

Pac beating David Diaz (BUM) DLH (Severely weight drained) and two very debatable wins against JMM. We can all **** on anyone's resume

                Thoughts............
Floyd will have to have a big fight before he makes the list again... just coming out of retirement doesn't rank you at any weight until you fight, if he has a tune-up fight he will most likely be high ranked in a weight class and relatively high ranked in P4P status... but in fairness wouldn't have done enough to go further than number 3 (due to retiring before, took him off the list)... if Floyd then has a big fight with whatever opponent and looks good then he would probably move up to #2, maybe #1 depending on how Pacquiao is doing at the present time.

He can't be ranked #1 after a tune-up, it would be the same for any fighter... Floyd can't be an acception, a tune-up is to basically sharpen your skills that isn't enough to rank P4P #1... people could argue that potentially he could soon be P4P #1 (depending on how he looks after lay-off), but he wouldn't have done enough to reach that status after just one tune-up fight after coming out of retirement.

You're making it sound like Pac could still fight at lower weights, Apart from the DLH fight Pac moved up because he had to, for David Diaz fight at 135, Pac weighed 147 thats only 2lb less than Malignaggi and 5lb less than Hatton weighed on fight night when they faced each other. He would find it very hard to make 135 after moving up for DLH.

OK well since no one can really decide on this and it seems to be 50 / 50 id like to throw my view out there and see what people think of this idea. on may 2nd when pac and hatton get it on, lets say pac wins a close fight something to the tune of 7 rounds to 5 rounds . can we then reclaim floyd as the pound for pound number 1 because of the dominating fashion in wich floyd whooped ricky ?

and for all those who are going to say " oh but than pac is better than floyd because of the oscar fight " all i have to say is that if you honestly believe that 144 lb shell of oscar was anything like what floyd fought at 154 you need to stop trying to analyze boxing.

I think Floyd fans are missing the point. Its not about who is technically more skilled or what Mayweather has done before, its a case of what have you done lately and Pacquiao has done a lot more than Mayweather. That is before mentioning how Pacs resume ****s all over Mayweather's in term of opposition.
